Did ESPN triple his pay to say that the Yanks-Sox rivalry is bigger than the Dodgers-Giants one or what?

I have a biased opinion: Dodgers-Giants >>>>>>>>>>> Yankees-Red Sox B)

EDIT: I do hate to admit it, though. Red Sox and Yankee fans are more passionate about the rivalry.

Maybe when both teams were still in NY.

Actually, the rivalry got better in the West Coast.

Red Sox-Yanks >>>> Dodgers-Giants

Reasons:

Sox, Yanks are always competitive, meaning both always race for 1st in AL East and meet in playoffs.

Even in offseason, teams try to out-do each other

Both have an enormous amount of resources, able to get all marquee players

Both teams usually finish with 90+ wins and do it in a tough division, where as teh Dodgers and Giants are fighting to stay above .500

Yeah, but the Yanks always end up winning, right? Except 2004, of course.

All I could say is Dodgers-Giants is not as one-sided as the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is.

Well, thats why the rivalry ahs really picked up lately, because it's gotten a bit more leveled.

I agree with you on this because there have been two BOS-NYY ALCS in this decade while the Dodgers and Giants have yet to face each other in the NLCS.

But historically, I still think BRK/LA-NY/SF is a bigger rivalry, IMHO.

Well, if they didn't move, then it probably would be, but the yanks n Sox have always been here, so I geuss it's had more itme to grow.

What do you mean if they didn't move? They have to be in the East Coast so it would be a "real rivalry" and ESPN would have a boatload of telecasts for their games?

San Francisco and Los Angeles just hate each other, let alone Northern California and Southern California.

Imagine how many rivalries would co-exist in NY if both didn't move? The Mets, Giants, Dodgers AND Yanks? Thatd be baseball heaven.

And, just fyi, Im pretty sure the yanks n Sox dont exactly golf together

Sox/Yankees

Boston/New York

Hands down the Biggest rivalry in the history of sports

I'd hafta disagree with you on that one, hands down Duke/UNC Basketball is the biggest rivalary in sports.

I'd say the majority of baseball fans don't see this as anything more than a normal divisional rivalry. If you're not an old man, or born/live in Cali chances are you don't care/know about this rivalry.

Only in the mid-Atlantic states.

Nationally, I think Ohio St. vs. Michigan and ND vs. USC in football are bigger than UNC vs. Duke. I've lived in the NE, in the South, out West, and in Hawaii. ACC Basketball just isn't that important outside the mid-Atlantic region. Those FB rivalries garner interest in all the places I've been.

As do the Sox/Yanks.

saw this topic on the dodgerblues site. i originally posted to a certain extent i agree that the dodgers - gnats rivalry has been mostly one-sided, just like the yanks titles > red sox titles, the dodgers titles > san fagcisco. if anything, prior to last year, i'd say u had a more venomous rivalry between cubs/white sox fans & cubs/cardinals. but after reading other posts i've partially come back around and think the rivalry is most heated between the fans and not so much the players...especially in this era of free agency.

sampling of other opinions:

*it's west coast vs east coast, people! we got good weather and babes with fake titties coming out all year long. of course we are not as angry or passionate about the rivalry. like orel said, sf worries about beating la, we worry about winning championships.

*It's been relatively rare that the Dodgers and Giants have battled each other for a division. One is usually good and the other blows. The Red Sox and Yankees, since about 1977, have contended for the AL East division flag many times and usually they have been within a few games of each other! The Dodgers-Giants has not given us anything close to the Bucky Dent home run. This year, for example, look at the aL East: Yanks and Sox, 1 and 2. Dodgers 1, Giants fifth...

On a separate note, you have to give the Angels credit for being the only team in the Joe Torre era who has a winning record against the Yankees-they knocked the Evil Empire out of the playoffs TWICE. Thank you ex-Dodger Mike Scioscia!!http://www.mixxer.com/download/personal/d0b7bd024db91d43e12826cc0e55d943.gif/icon_drinking_gif.gif

*and finally, The Yanks and Sox pretend they genuinely hate each other until they sign with the other team...sorry cheap shot, i know, but doesnt make it less true.
