I heard on WEEI today that Andruw Jones cleared waivers today. I wonder if Oswalt will be put on waivers now that we are in second place and the Yankees can't block us. THe fact that MDC did well tonight will help his trade value.

The Braves will want a lot for Andruw. He isnt signed for a ton of $$ for his production and he is still young. Oswalt will never make it through waivers so the sox turn and switch deal wont work.

I'm shocked that Jones made it through waivers. I wonder if it's true. I can't see the Yankees, or the Mets, or the Sox, or anyone for that matter not putting a claim in.

I assume it was because of the money he is making but still I'm suprised he passed through.

Anyone got a link for Jones clearing waivers? Everything I've read said he was placed on waivers today.

$ 15 million next year, the Sox would take a $ 5 million luxurary tax hit making it $ 20 million next year. I assume the Yanks would get hit with that or more. Plus what prospects it will take.

My guess would be that the Braves organization has had many conversations with other clubs. I can see two possible scenarios:

1) The Atlanta Braves want to get a reaction from teams to determine what Andruw Jones will be worth next season before he becomes a free agent.

2) Teams could put in a claim but if they don't have a deal in place with Atlanta its quite possible they wouldn't make the attempt considering the money involved if he was released outright at that point. On that note a deal could be in place with a specific team.

Andruw does have a veto power so he might not go to another team if he doesn't want to. i doubt he will in that case<_ .>

If thats true then the only teams who have a chance are those in contention. There is no way Andruw Jones would agree to a weak team trade.

As far as the Red Sox are concerned...the Toronto Blue Jays are still involved so they could block us. Personally I think its a fantastic move for the Red Sox. Andruw Jones could patrol the middle outfield until his contract is up and by that time Jacoby Ellsbury will be ready for the majors.

Keep in mind that other teams like the Angels, A's, White Sox & Twins (teams who sought out a big bat during the deadline) could claim him before the Sox even get a chance. Even so the Braves were intent on getting a package that included Lester. That being said I dont think the odds are on our favor.

He is in the National League as well, so National League teams would get first dibs. The Sox would then be 28th in line

By this time I would think Andruw Jones has either cleared waivers or been claimed based on the fact he was placed on Tuesday. We will probably know shortly if there is any chance.

Well, you can take the White Sox off that list. They passed Boston last night. :(
