3 prospects only 1 of which is a starter for a stud all-star major league starter at age 27 is a steal. We gave up the top prospect in the system plus Annibel Sanchez for a much less accomplished pitcher in Beckett. Relievers are just not that valuable, and we've got papelbon to hold down the closer role and we still have Timlin for the 8th. I know you disagree, but I will be reminding all of you Theo fanboys about this as these kid pitchers fall short of stardom one by one.

If Relievers aren't valuable then why even keep Timlin around? Let's DFA him ... then lets move Paps back to the rotation, trade MDC and Hansen after the season then just sign a few scrubs to pitch in the pen because "relievers are just not that valuable"

So...

Boston- Roy Oswalt

Houston- Jon Lester, Craig Hansen, Manny Delcarmen, Coco Crisp

Do you have a link that Houston asked for all 4? Again, here is the quote from the article:

The Sox made a quick call to the Braves concerning Andruw Jones, but Atlanta asked for the same package of players everyone else wanted: Lester, Hansen, and Delcarmen. The Sox said no and moved on.
Where does the article say that the Stros asked for these 3 plus Crisp?

I was just responding to your post

Crisp is a bat? And if they asked for Crisp and the article says we offered Crisp, then why don't we have Oswalt today?

The Braves asked for that, not the Astros. (I'm pretty sure the Astros would want a bat back.)
Once again, please read the article. Here is the quote:

So, basically you want to open two holes after you plug one. I agree, getting Oswalt would have been a coup, but then we'd be left of a bullpen of the EZ brothers, Timlin, and JVB. Not the strongest of pens. You are also not addressing the 4th and 5th starter issues as you repla ce your #3 with Oswalt. So we're looking at 2.5 studs in the rotation (depending on what Beckett gives you), white flag 4th and 5th starters, and a schmuck pen. I think you can make the case we're better off not having made that move.
I think Schilling, Oswalt and Oswalt would be 3 studs. You are counting a guy with 13 wins as a half stud? You are seriously going to compare Oswalt to Lester? You know what they would call a matchup of Oswalt vs. Lester? A mismatch. I really don't think that I would be sacrificing all that much with the two relievers, bot of whom have ERA's over 4. Hansen has yet to pitch an effective second inning and MDC is probably heading for a seat next to Varitek and Nixon on the DL.

Explain to me how you were responding to my post. Where did I suggest that the Stros asked for 4 players?

Well you mentioned how Astros asked the Sox for Lester, Hansen, & Delcarmen. The article did say the the Sox were willing to give up 1 or 2 of them. Hey if they were to get Oswalt for Delcarmen & Hansen, then Id be jumping up and down now.

Crisp is a bat? And if they asked for Crisp and the article says we offered Crisp, then why don't we have Oswalt today?

Did you or did you not say the Astros asked for Crisp? Sorry if I was confused by that one post. Maybe if you were a fly on the wall at the Sox main offices, but this is all speculation... not fact of what the talks actually went like

It sucked.

The bird was cool though.

hahaha i was at the game to and was pretty much watching the bird more than the game.

It's inferred. If Atlanta wanted what everyone else wanted, then the Astros fall into that category.

If Rheal Cormier was traded for Zach Ward, I'd assume that starting pitching was in much higher demand. Hence, I believe the Astros probably wanted a bat along with Oswalt.

Where does it say ASTROS and OSWALT?
It says that eveyone asked for that package. Would the Astros be included in "everyone?" Let's have an exercise in logic here for you slow learners: The article states that the Red Sox offered 1 or 2 of the 3 kids plus Crisp to the Astros for Oswalt. I think it is safe to assume that the Astros would have opted for Lester as one of the two. This means that the offer was either Lester plus MDC or Hansen plus Crisp or it was just Lester plus Crisp, depending on whether the Red Sox offered one or two pitchers. Clearly the offer was not accepted by the Astros which means that the Astros asked for something additional or different players. One conclusion would be that if the Sox offered only Lester plus Crisp that Houston asked for something additional and asked for either MDC or Hansen. Another logical conclusion based on the article was that they asked for all three kid pitchers and dropped Crisp from the package. Afterall they have Taverez in CF. This would be a very logical conclusion based on the article. I cite you to the oft-quoted sentence that references "everyone." There is no evidence in the article nor can any logical inference be drawn from the article that the Stros asked for the 3 kids plus Crisp. Until someone in authority comes out and definitively says otherwise, based on the clear statement in the article that multiple teams asked for the 3 kids in a package (and the Sox thought it was too rich), it has too be concluded that the Stros asked for the 3 kids. This is what is known as deductive reasoning.

I was up in the monster seats in the first row under the "Under Armor" sign on the Sports Authority advertising board. I was yelling at Michaels. He wouldn't help the bird. Heartless bastard.
I felt bad for that bird. Couldn't someone on the grounds crew have come out between innings and help it get airborne.
Posted
It's wing was busted. It got up like 10 feet but just sputtered back to earth between a pair of early innings. It was there all night. It probably still is. Michaels just watched the bird hop along.

Didn't Jason Michaels punch a cop? You think he's gonna help a bird?

Posted

No, I didn't think he was going to help it. That doesn't make him any less of a heartless bastard.

Besides, it's fun to antagonize the opposing left fielders from the monster seats. I yelled something about his grandfather sucking because apparantly John Michaels was a pitcher for the Red Sox in the 1930s. I got him to look up at us, must have struck a nerve.

In that assumption the Pirates asked for those three for Kip Wells.
