one word to describe this game: WOW. It's hard to believe that A) Ortiz doesn't have the lead all time in walkoffs and B)Pitchers still pitch to him (actually not really because manny is due up);) . i Wonder if willy mo got the cycle which would be a bigger story in the game.:dunno: or would ortiz even homer. I also hope that snyder doesn't get called down he was like if papelbon was a set up guy.i know it's one game but we did the same for paps i believe.:dunno:

I remember one time some team IBB'd Bonds, which brought a run in. They could afford to do so, and they ended up winning the game because the IBB'd him. I found that to be pretty cool. Anyone remember any specific details about that game?

Not to be too harsh, but the funny thing is this: Your serious posts resemble the posts that CrespoBlows roommate makes when he's screwing around

I'm not insulting your intelligence, I'm just observing and comparing the layout of your posts. Don't take it the wrong way.

For the record, Wily Mo didn't get the double to complete the cycle. He K'd when he had the chance to get the cycle. My God I love this guy. I can't wait until he proves everyone wrong, slides into the 5 whole, and helps us create the top 3-4-5 trio in the game.

Imagine a late inning situation in the opposing bullpen.

Coach: Okay, I want you to intentionally walk Ortiz.

Pitcher: What about Ramirez?

Coach: Oh...uh, yeah. Er...him too.

Pitcher: Then you've got Pena...

Coach: Um...okay, lets just hit all three of them with pitches and take our chances with Varitek.

Pitcher: But the bases will be loaded with no outs!

Coach: Yeesh...yeah, alright, well just turn in the lineup card and forefeit to the home plate umpire.

Pitcher: Sounds good to me, I can save some pitches for when we really need them.

I don't get it. It seems like everyone forgets how clutch Manny was before he was overshadowed by Papi.

What Papi is doing is just God-like, playoffs alone say so. Yes a big reason is who is batting behind him. Papi's 15 walkoff hits (7 HRs) in 4 seasons, must be inching closer already to franchise record I believe. Sorry didnt realize we were shunning Manny as if he was a nobody

No that's not how I ment it. Every time Papi gets a walk off hit everyone asks why they didn't intentionally walk him ... well they didn't intentionally walk him because one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen is waiting behind him.

So I think I've figured a ballsy way to stop Big Papi, just don't tell any other teams.

Basically you play the third and first baseman really far in. I mean REALLY far; like 3/4 of the way between the pitchers mound and home plate. As soon as the ball is pitched, the first and third basmen charge the plate waving their arms frantically in hopes of knocking the long ball down. So they might suffer some bruises, but at least they stop Big Papi.

Actually I would LOVE to see Giambi or Arod attempt this.

There would also be the distraction element of the third baseman charging the batter. That JUST might work. Don't tell the yankees!

fans on NYYfans.com are so freaking jealous, saying that Ortiz isnt as good as every one thinks. Papi should have been the MVP last year, and if he continues this and the sox make the playoffs, there is no question who the MVP is this year

I'm not saying he can't continue it, but as of right now, NOW, Ortiz has not as good as career as Mo Vaughn who was great for the red sox for a good decade. Playing DH certainly helps his chances and I do believe when Ortiz retires, he will be viewed as the second best hitter in red sox history.

Mo Vaughn was in a different day & age before Papi took over Boston. No doubt all Boston fans will remember the glory days of Mo

Ortiz still just turned 30, with his size Id say he'll be consistently productive for another 4/5 years (how long his extension is). He is also inching closer to several of Mo's career stats
