I'm not trying absovle Manny from any guilt. He should have had the ball. That is undeniable. He also shouldn't have needed to get the ball. Coco misplayed that ball by a good 5-6 feet. He launched himself over the fence and the ball hit the wall a good ways behind him. His range is great, but his first step and routes suck. I think at least 25 of the remaining 29 CF get that ball. He compounded the problem by skipping the ball all the way to 3B -- hint, hint, that's your lack of concentration that you seem to be unable to find.

Its unbelievable that Francona let Papelbon sit in the pen for the entire series.

Again, the lack of being able to throw a 200 foot strike to a cutoff man is one thing. Not barehanding a ball that my crippled grandmother could have had is another.

This was a game where the outfield defense was asleep and the rookie pitchers showed their respective weaknesses. I can forgive the rookies because it’s all part of a learning curve, but what I saw from Coco and Manny today was brutal.

Alos what gets overlooked is in the 7th inning when it was 2 outs and 1 on, Manny did this akward slide to stop a bll from rolling. He ended up kicking it almost past Crisp. By the time Coco got the ball, runner was already reaching 3rd

Overall, I liked what I saw offensively, especially our 3-4-5 guys (7 RBIs). Defensively and pitching wise, we SUCKED. Just a bump in the road for Lester I think, he'll come back strong.

Lester wasn't THAT bad. You can't expect a 22 year old kid to throw 8 innings of 1 hit ball every outing
