If the Giants fall out of the race, would they make Schmidt available? He leads the NL in ERA and would drastically improve the rotation. I believe hes a FA at the end of the year too? Does he still have his explosive fastball or has he changed as a pitcher?

in may he was hitting 95 all day every day

his last couple starts he was around 92,no better

i'd take him if we can get him a 2yr extension

He likely wouldn't get dominated' date=' but he might not have the same kind of stats. He'd be a 13-15 win pitcher with a 3.50-4 ERA IMO.[/quote']

I completely agree. Perhaps he wouldn't dominate the AL like he does the NL but he will not get killed. The top pitchers in the NL can pitch in the AL.....Dontrelle Willis, Jason Schmidt, Brandon Webb, John Smoltz, Roy Oswalt, Roger Clemens.....they wouldn't necessarily have the same ERA but based on the offensive scoring they would probably win just as many games.

I think it's pretty clear this guy can still pitch, his numbers are very good:

6-4, 2.69 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, .212 BAA, 120 1/3 IP, 102 K, 41 BB, 10 HR,

VORP: 43 (3rd in MLB for pitchers, behind only Webb and Santana)

I heard a rumor yesterday of him possibly going to the White Sox, personally if I had to choose either D-train or Schmidt, I would go with Willis because he's younger and I don't think he has reached his prime yet. Schmidt could be a good option for the right price but he isn't worth jeopardizing the future. I would rather see them acquire a 4th-5th starter than risk the farm system on Jason Schmidt.
