A lot more was counted on RJ than it was for Beckett this season

RJ- $16 million, ace of the staff

Beckett- $3.5 million, #2/3 pitcher

I disagree completely. RJ was expected to be the ace just like Beckett was. The difference is, RJ was supposed to be the ace of right now and Beckett was supposed to be the ace of right now and the future.

The sox had no idea what they were getting out of Schilling and Beckett was their answer to stabilize the rotation. Schilling came back to form and reclaimed the ace spot when Beckett essentially handed it over like a little lamb. At the same time, RJ has pitched rather poorly to his standards this season, but he is turning it on at a major time of need. Beckett, a guy who is from the warm weather both in life and in baseball should be the guy who is surging as the heat increases, instead he is slumping and instead of looking like the future ace of the staff, he looks like an overpaid #5. If you want to talk about a disappointment, both are equally disappointing thus far, but Beckett is showing he is going to continue it while RJ looks like he is reversing it. As for the future, Beckett is the biggest disappointment of them all because he was supposed to be the cog that the future is built around and that is a major ??? right now.

Sorry just entitled to my own opinion

The Yankees were counting on RJ to rehash 2005 results. Mussina the past couple seasons had been on a downward slide, Pavano's still hurt from anything, Wright was mediocre, and Wang is going into his sophmore season. $17 million on an established pitcher who's expected to be the ace but instead has become the #3 pitcher with an ERA above 5 would be disappointing to any team. Even still johnson is still showing to be erratic. With Beckett its all about gorwing up in the AL now, he needs to listen to everybody who is willing to help

It doesnt change the fact that Beckett was brought here to be the ace of the staff. Both were supposed to be aces. Both have pitched like 3's or 4's this year, with RJ pitching like a 2 lately and Beckett pitching like a 5 recently. He has to turn it around. The sox pitching relies on more than just him, and he cannot bail right now.

btw, I just went back and checked the archives and you have been consistent on your stance of "wait and see" with Beckett, so you are entitled to your opinion and you have stck to it. Kudos, it is those who post one thing then deny it when it proves wrong that really gets me.

Because it's apples and oranges. Ryan went on to pitch for another 3-4 years. He wasn't quite at the end of the road like Randy is now, which is why his ERA was 3.44.
Ryan had one more productive year. His last 2 year he won only 5 games each. He only threw 56 innings in his last year.
In 1990, at age 25, RJ had an ERA of 4.82 compared to a league ERA of 3.95. In 2005, a 25 year old Beckett had a 3.38 ERA compared to a league ERA of 4.02. Stupid argument?
I must have missed your response to this post.

It was only a matter of time before A-Rod comitted an error behind Mussina. I count 4 now that I remember:

1. VS Detroit. He blew the complete game shutout for Mussina

2. VS Toronto. Mussina was rolling and A-Rod throws the ball away trying to get the out at home.

3. VS Chicago. On what should have been a routine DP he throws it into RF.

4. Tonight

You can want your team to win while still appreciating an outstanding play by your competitors.

Please. If you're convinced that a play by the opponent like that, which preserved the lead in a close game, would be applauded in Fenway...well, there's a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd love to sell you.

I didn't hear any applause when Polanco made that catch against Mirabelli. I thought it was a good catch, but I wasn't pleased by it.

(Maybe if the catch was in the 1st inning)

I've seen opponents be acknowledged for great plays at both Yankee stadium and Fenway. Even low life scum like Yankee fans will ocassionally give it up for an opponent player.
