The Red Sox are concerned about a sore knee that Manny Ramirez has been bothered by lately and will suggest that he not plat in the All-Star Game despite being the leading vote-getter among AL Outfielders. This is according to redsox.com.

If hes sore.....No.

I did hear on WEEI today that Manny's agent said that Manny Ramirez has said that he will not ask the team for a trade this year, and instead is looking for an extension to finish his career in Boston.

Very Interesting if you ask me. Im thinking maybe Pedro had a talk to Manny and Pedro told him to stay in Boston, and that he regrets leaving Boston and that the money maybe greener on the other side, but the grass is not....I think there may be more to this.

im not sure how the contract and trade talk has anything to do with the All-Star game, but I like the sound of it.

Also, hopefully their asking him not to play will not tick him off and make him request a trade

I like how this makes the news. He's NOT going to ask for a trade folks!

It would make sense. Pedro was clearly sad the night he pitched against us. He probably told Manny it's not worth leaving. Please, let this be the end of the "Manny being a Nutcase" episode and let's get on with the stupid/funny antics.

I’m sure he’d miss the $75,000 All Star incentive built into his contract.

If he’s sore and if he or the Sox think that time off can help, then why should he play in a game that really means nothing? As a fan it wouldn’t bother me at all to see him sit it out.

I couldn't care less who slips into his spot the last thing we need is ihm tweaking is leg in the god damn All Start game, which is sham anyways, and having to take a stint on the DL.

I think the FO should encourage him to sit. He gets his incentive $ for being named to the team. As far as an extension goes, the FO would be stark raving mad if they don't keep the tandem of Ortiz and Manny going as long as possible. It is simply the best 3-4 combo that the game has seen since Ruth and Gehrig. It is a wrecking crew that destroys pitching, blows open games and carries the team offense for most of the 162 game schedule. If Manny goes, Ortiz never sees a strike again. It would be a much, much, much, much (did I say much?) dumber move than letting Pedro walk.

When is Manny signed through though? I want to say 2008 but I could be off by a year or two. I'm pretty sure there is a team option or two after that but it obviously won't be picked up as it never is at the end of big contracts. I wouldn't extend him at this point given that you have no idea what type of player he will be by the 2009 season while in his mid 30's.

Injured or not, why is it so important to see Manny play in the AS game?

Its not really, I just happen to like watching the All Star game and I'd like a sox presence there as much as possible. Sorry, I'm just not that worried about injuries I guess... I just want to see sox on the field in the all star game and plow over the NL... nothing was cooler than watching Manny and Ortiz blast off in Houston. That was awesome.

There shouldn't even be a debate, Manny should not be playing in the ASG and no fan should want him to unless you're a bigger fan of the AL all stars than the Red Sox.

Baseball Prospectus has a tidbit that there could be a solution with Manny's sore knee. We could end up seeing Manny more at DH, Youk in LF and Ortiz flashing the leather

Interesting article. Good find.

It’s easy to say that Ramirez is faking an injury, but almost as easy to actually check on the injury. Ramirez is suffering from a small tear in the medial meniscus of his right knee. It’s an injury he can play with, but one that can “grind,” a bone-on-bone situation that is unpredictable and painful.

Was anyone else aware that Manny was suffering from specifically this injury? Will Carroll makes it sound like this is readily available information, but until today, I’ve never heard or read about it. I wish he had given a source.

It does reinforce the team’s decision not to have Manny play in the ASG. And maybe adds more credibility that the Sox might be looking for help this season in the OF (Abreu).

:thumbdown Manny has to Play, because if he doesnt Johnny slips into his spot

I could give a rip if Damon had slipped into Manny's spot. Three days off from the rigors of playing could be just what the doctor ordered to help Manny's knee to get better so we have a healthy clean up hitter ready for the big push in the second half. Didn't effect the game, did it? The American League came back with two outs in the ninth and won it again. Boy does the NL really suck. That's another topic, though. Good for Manny to sit this one out.B) :)

Well that's my hard luck. I love to see jokes but remember that I am a senior citizen and sometimes I don't think as quickly as I once did. Good to know we are both on board with Manny sitting it out. I just hope his knee doesn't give him a lot of trouble in the second half. I think he just might be lights out for us if he stays healthy.:D :D :D :D :D :D

Selig can kiss Manny's ass. Everyone around the league and the writers beat up on him for styling on his HRs and not hustling, but now they are all bitching and moaning that he should be on display at the All Star game. They can all kiss the future Hall of Famer's ass.

Well 700 Hitter, I would much prefer Manny doing the kissing, like kissing the ball all over the ballpark and kicking American League ass while about it. That would please us no end and make Selig and the rest of his pathetic crowd take notice and shut up.
