First off, I'm sorry if this topic has been covered already. I did a search but didn't find anything.

Anyway, I just purchased the MLB.TV season-long subscription cause quite frankly, I'm tired of watching Sox games on GameCast and I'm tired of only being able to watch the Sox when they play the Jays (Sportsnet shows the Jays games here in Canada)

So I'm just wondering, are there any drawbacks to having MLB.TV cause to me, for $50 this seems like the greatest thing in the world to someone like me, someone who very rarely has TV access to Sox games

It is worth it. I hardly use it anymore with Extra Innings. But it is better than gameday audio. The only problem is the blackouts, which you get with Extra Innings as well. If you have to watch the Sox on the net, MLB.tv is well worth it. Plus, every once and a while, you get a treat not shown on NESN.

I did a bit of research and as far as I know, the only blackouts I get are for playoff games, which I get on TV anyway. Being in Canada, I'm not among any of the zip codes blacked out

The only blackouts during the regular season are on Saturday afternoons. Fox has exclusive broadcast rights, so they only allow you to watch whatever game is on T.V. Mlb.tv and EI are blacked out in Saturdays. Although, that may not apply to you in Canada.

You know, I've had to watch the last 5 games on mlb.tv. It's been probably 2 years since I had to use it to watch the Sox - I have the TV package now. But damn, it went downhill real fast.

First, it's hanging up today for some reason.

Second, why did they take out all the commercials?

Third, and this is a biggy. No graphics?

No graphics??!!!! I haven't seen a live score, inning, pitch or runners on graphic in almost a week. What the hell?

Definitely not as good as it used to be.

QUESTION: Let's say you are watching the game MLB.TV. Do you get all the pre-game and post-game offered on NESN, for example? Or do you just get the game and that's it like on Extra Innings?

They show the names of the highlights to the right of the video. If you ever plan to watch games after they happen this may ruin it for you. I remember coming home excited to watch the Red Sox game only to see "Ortiz's Walk-Off HR" right next to the game starting. Also they run their version of the bottom line under it, so it can also be ruined that way.

Other than that it's a great service.

For the last week anyway, instead of showing the pregame show they show a graphic that says they're in a commercial break. So no. That's another issue that never used to be.

I've never been able to watch the post game. <_>

Another problem I've been having is if you watch a game after it's officially over, the player stops buffering after about 10 minutes and I have to restart the broadcast and try and figure out the minute mark I was last watching (so if you watch it fullscreen, you have no idea what minute marker you were watching when the buffer stops). It is terribly annoying. I have to do this after every half inning! ugh.

And yeah, you've got to cover the screen and close one eye on the sign in screen or else you'll probably see the final score somewhere on the page.

On a related note, the gameday audio pisses me off too. It sounds like crap - not half as good as the normal weei stream. And after the gameday audio stops after the game, weei is still blacked out for a good 10-20 minutes. :dunno:
