Cora's batting .304 and really been tearing it up lately. Wonder if Tito starts giving him more starts at SS, which it seems like he plans on doing. That might end up being a straight out platoon for a while

i honestly think in terms of pure stuff, Hansen has more potential than Papelbon.

a good moving 95 MPH 2 seamer

a 87 MPH slider with good movement, very tough pitch to hit.

and a 85 MPH changeup with a little sink to it.

I honestly think that unless the Sox find a starter or Clement can come back and be effective, theres a chance that Hansen is the closer by August and Papelbon moves back to the rotation. As long as Hansen can do what he did tonight on a usual bases, hed be unhittable as a Closer.

i dont see how he can. He is just downright unhittable as long as he uses his 3 pitches effectively. Tonight he had everything working. A 98 mph fastball, a nasty slider (the one he got Guillen to foul off) and a pretty sick changeup (the one he got Anderson to pop out on).

I know there's probably a thread already about this, but if Theo's looking for anything at the trade deadline, it's starting pitching. Considering the lack of market (unless a Willis or Smoltz comes up), there's nothing worth trading for. If Beckett can get it figured out and there's even a possibility that Clement, Wells, Pauley or Abe can fill the #5, this team is going to be real fun to watch the second half.

He said "i started my career as a closer, and i want to finish my career as a closer" I don't see how you remove a guy from a role in which he has been the most dominant in years (so far)! I say leave him where he is--there's nothing like that feeling when the sox have the lead going into the 9th and you know it's over!

Despite the runs, Hansen looked great tonight. A couple bloop hits and bad pitch calling led to the runs.
