EEI reported a few days ago the Marlins would only look to deal Willis to either the Dodgers, Brewers, or D-backs if in fact they can come to terms on a deal. $4,350,000 out of a total $14,344,500 payrol Willis takes up the Marlins would have Brian Moehler as the highest payed at 1,500,000.

neither the yankees or the blue jays have the young impact talent to get willis. and in a deal to acquire willis cash cannot be the majority item traded.

I imagine the Dodgers would be the most likely team to acquire him, McCourt would want another arm to bolster the rotation in hopes to help bring them out of another disspointing season, Jsinger's right, it's all about the prospects.

a lot of people think that the D-backs and the Dodgers have the best chance of getting him because of their farm systems.

obviously.....and don't forget the angels but they are focused on a bat more.

I am watching Dontrelle against the Yankees, and it's just completely nuts to think that this guy can't tear it up in the AL. The kid is a complete stud. If it takes a couple of blue-chippers to get this guy, Theo should do it to get this 24 year-old lefty star.

Yeah, we have plenty of promising arms in our minors already, why not trade the ones with the higehst stock as of now for him, as long as it doesn't involvethe Big 4 in the Majors already. Then again, I'd deal Delcarmen for him.

Ok guys, this is huge for me, but I would now wager craig hansen in a dontrelle deal. happy? i would approve. still not lester.

I would trade any prospect not named Lester. Hansen is tough, like 60/40 in favor of trade, but if it nets Willis you'd have to do it.

People the Marlins are trading Willis unless they get Lester back in a trade.....Forget about it. They already asked for Lester in the Beckett deal and were turned down. The Sox don't have what it takes to get him nor do the Yankees. Only about 3 teams that have the elite prospects to get Willis might do it. Dodgers, Angels, DBacks.....all 3 teams have better prospects than the Red Sox.

But that deal ended up alright now didn't it? :D We kept Lester, AND got Beckett. B)

They ended up settling on Anibal Sanchez but that was not before Mota and two other lower pitchers were thrown in.

You don't think they would go for a Craig Hansen and David Murphy deal??....they need outfield help. If not then what about Craig Hansen and Jacoby Ellsbury??

Hansen yes Murphy no. Murphy is not that good of prospect. The Sox would never do Hansen and Ellsbury. They need Hansen with this team right now and Ellsbury is someone I am high on as well as the sox are. He is what a team wants in a leadoff hitter. Fast, high OBP guy who walks alot and creates havoc on the base.

Now I don't disagree because I'm high on both players as well...however...we should consider long term what the team will look like. Would you rather have:

1. Papelbon in the rotation and Hansen as the closer

2. Papelbon as the closer and Hansen as the setup man

3. Papelbon as the closer and Dontrelle Willis in the starting rotation

No doubt Hansen can help us now but not close to the amount Dontrelle Willis would. As for Jacoby Ellsbury I really like what the kid brings. The problem I see is he doesn't hit for great power numbers and neither does Coco Crisp. I would expect the Red Sox to have a outfield of Coco Crisp, Willy Mo Pena, and another power bat when Manny ends his career.

Tough call but I think the options are there if the Red Sox really did want to make a deal of some kind.

Damn the price jumped already I see. We were able to get a 25 year old pitcher plus a proven 3B and a middle reliever for 2 blue chip prospects. I had no idea Dontrelle Willis is that much better. What team would go for something like that?

First off Lowell was a salary dump. Thats why we got him with Beckett. If we didn't take Lowell then we wouldn't have had a chance to get Beckett. The whole trade centered around taking Mike Lowell's 18 million off the Marlins hands. Willis is younger and he is lefthanded. Plus they won't be dumping anyone else along with Willis making the price much higher.

I think what the point is is that you shouldn't draw these conclusions when you don't have the inside information the Marlins and Sox are working with. I don't personally think the Sox will get Willis, but you can never be sure. Just let the things unfold where they will. I think it's possible, but not probable, that a Willis trade goes down.

I'm pretty sure if the Marlins trade Willis it won't be for a pile of crap. It will be to a team that has 3 top notch prospects that can help the Marlins for 2007 and beyond.

no but there are better prospects out there and I don't think the Red Sox are willing to move Hansen anyways. They are loaded with arms anyways. What they need is 3 top notch positional prospects. The Marlins wanted Hansen in the draft and thought they had him until he had big bonus demands. The way his contract is structured might not be what the Marlins are looking for.

Hansen, Ellsbury and Martinez that should get their attention.
