1. Trade Matt Clement (i dont care for what)

2. Get Roger

3. find a 5th starter somehow, whether its Wells, Lester or someone in a trade

4. Middle Reliever

5. Lefty in the pen

6. possibly try and get O Cabrera back. Gonzo's played great D, but his bat is starting to annoy me.

My guess is Clement goes on the DL....but I really think its just a cover to get him off the field. Lets bring up some kids to pitch because I was excited to see Van Buren and Delcarmen pitch the way they did today.

those 2 need to stay in the Sox pen for awhile. They looked great tonight

If Clemens signs, then we'd have Schilling, Beckett, Clemens, Wells, and Wakefield. I'd be satisfied with that.

As for O-Cab, no thanks. His .732 OPS isn't worth $8 million.

Am I the only one who sees past this threat of trading Manny every year? I think it's a stunt to see what other teams would possibly be willing to give up, therefore maybe showing people who might be available.

id like O-Cab so our lineup would be complete. Only if he wasn't to hard to get. NO top prospects for him. We could give them Clement and Gonzalez straight up for O-Cab. not going to happen most likely, but the contracts are similar.

imagine...

1. Youk

2. Loretta

3. Ortiz

4. Manny

5. Nixon/WMP

6. Lowell

7. Varitek

8. O-Cab

They'd probably start Charlie Manson before they'd accept Matt Clement.

If Stoneman accepted that trade he should be slapped across the face.

I don't want Cabrera. That contract is atrocious.

Plus, the oly way we're trading Clement is if we eat some of the salary. So that'd be more wasted $$.

Whats better?

Keeping Clement

or...

eating a chunk of his salary just to get rid of him

Bottomline, its not my money thats being shelled out so the Sox can go ahead and do such a deal. Even if they release him, theyre going to have to pay him money anyway. Might as well get something for him

I'd do it.

We'd only be stuck with the rest of Weaver's contract, which is only one year.

That and the fact he can't possibly be worse than Clement.

Jeff Weaver + Big Market = Disaster

So, yeah he is worse.

Yankee fans could tell you about that.

umm, we are talking about Jeff Weaver here.

Weavers ERA--6.99

Clements ERA--6.91

very similar though. i would take Weaver over Clement

Posted

on MLB.coms ERA leaders, Clement is 99th overall and Weaver 100, out of 100.

what about Clement for Jason Johnson? If we ate some contract

Posted
hahaha, how about a Jeff Weaver straight-up for Matt Clement deal?

the 2 worst pitchers in the AL

I would love that. I'd get more opportunities to boo his ass!

In the offseason, the Mariners had offered Gil Meche to the Sox. This May, he has a 4.09 ERA. Season ERA is 4.40, a step up from 2006 Clement

Seattle

Matt Clement, chunk of his salary, Dustin Pedroia or David Murphy

Boston

Gil Meche

never would I trade pedroia for an average pitcher such as meche.

Beckett, you called it perfectly in my opinion. We need a solid starter who can be plugged into the fourth slot in the rotation, a left reliever who can get tough lefthanded batters out, and a very good middle reliever so we don't have to depend on Seanez and Taverez any more than we have to. Especially now with Timlin out a good reliever is critical to our team, but I don't really know who is out there right now we can trade for. Maybe by the trading deadline something may open up.

This is also being talked about on WEEI

The Red Sox have been scouting Twins' Kyle Lohse, who was recently demoted to Triple A. Apparently a deal could be done between the two teams. Im not so sure as Lohse has actually been having a worse season than Clement has with an 8.92 ERA in his first 8 starts of the season. His career stats also show inconsistencies, Im scratching my head on this one

gil meche sucks

he plays in the spacious stadium of seattle and still has an era of 4.5

anybody with the name lose in his surname isnt qualified to pitch here either

jeez

how good would arroyo look on this team now??

I actually think Houston could consider it, their outfield is mediocre and Wandy Rodriguez is looking very promising

Freaking get realllllllll people...if we were talking about Ramirez 4 years ago, then I'd say this has a chance of getting off the ground. But Ramirez now? No way. Manny's best years are behind him. Not that he doesn't have some good ones left, but I'm saying his absolute BEST are behind him. And...there's no telling how well Manny would play without a guy like Ortiz hitting in front of him. Not that Berkman is bad or anything, but I don't think anything would be the Manny/Ortiz combination.

And also, besides Clemens, Houston hasn't been known to throw big money at free agents. Who's to say they'd even be able to resign Manny for another couple of years after his current monstrosity of a contract runs out?

Fact of the matter is...the Astros would be retarded to move Oswalt. Guys that can hit home runs and drive in runs are a dime a dozen. (I'm not saying guys like Manny, I'm just saying it's easier to get a guy who'll give you 25 HR and 75 RBI then it is to get a potential 20+ game winner.)

Oh...one more thing...

I'll run The Freedom Trail naked if we sign Clemens. That's another thing that, simply, is not going to happen. Theo won't overpay for people (besides Clement haha) and Clemens getting $15 million for a half year is overpaying, regardless of the kind of numbers he puts up.

Has anyone ever heard the conspiracy theory that Clemens is serving an ULTRA secret steriods suspension? Some people never cease to amaze me.

I will cut off Gil Meche's head and put it into bed with Theo Epstein if they even considered this trade. This is a message from Don Corleone.
