Hello and welcome to the TalkSox Hall of Fame. I would like to explain what will happen in this thread, and I hope that you all enjoy contributing to this thread. They way this will work is relatively easy. We will have a panel of however many judges feel that they can be active (probably capped at around twelve), and then a class from each year of baseball will be brought to be voted upon. The entrants that gain a majority vote of 70% (9/12) or more will be added. I think this will be a interesting topic as we can discuss the achievements of many players throughout the history of baseball.

If you would like to be on the Hall of Fame panel, please PM me with an AIM or e-mail address if possible.

Reserves (in order, if a vote is not registered they will be asked for their assistance):

Okay, we're full.

This is the routine that is going to happen each time.

Beginning in the year 1936, players will be nominated each year as they would in the regular Hall of Fame. Each member of the panel will nominate ten players they feel should be placed unto the ballot for that year. The rule is this: The player must've been retired for at least five years prior to the year we are in.

After each member has nominated their ten players, a ballot will be posted with each player and their career stats. From that, each member will vote for the players they feel deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. When a player aquires 70% of the vote, they will be inducted.

The players who were not inducted are eligible to be nominated for up to three ballots. After three ballots, no more nominations for that player will be allowed.

The first ballot will consist of players before 1936, meaning they must have retired in 1931 or earlier.

Members of the panel, please send me your nominations!

Can dead players be included? Gil Hodges is always on the top of my list.

I'll be back for the other nine.

I'll be back for the other nine.

I'd imagine that most people who retired before 1931 are dead now. But that's just a guess.

I thought it was members of the site. If it's old players then I'd like to politely remove myself from the panel to make room for someone with a little more knowledge of baseball history than myself.

As did I, from the PM received. A "Talksox Hall of Fame", might not be a bad idea, but would and should be made of mods, admin. and senior contributing members. Personally, I think this thread should be renamed to something like " Baseball's Other Hall of Fame".

TalkSox Baseball Hall of Fame Q&A

Q: What is it?

A: It is a way for us to pretend we are members of the Ballball Hall of Fame's panel. We start at the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame, in 1936, and go through just as they would in the real Hall of Fame and induct players.

Q: How many people can be on the panel?

A: It went from twelve to eight, now it is back to ten.

Q: How does it work?

A: Each person on the panel nominates ten players each round. The players they pick must have been retired five years prior to the year we're in. For instance, only players retired before 1931 can be on the 1936 ballot, 1994 on the 1999, etc. Then, from those nominations, a ballot will be posted and each member will vote. Any player on the ballot recieving 70% of the vote will be inducted.

Q: How many times can a player be on the ballot?

A: Only three to avoid massive inflation of the Hall of Fame.

Q: So, how often does a person on the ballot need to nominate, etc.?

A: There are no time limits really, but a reasonable time will be set for nominations and votes to come in. Everytime we go through a year, we'll move to the next. So, as you can see, I'm not exactly sure how long this may take.

Q: Once you have all the nominations, how are you going to discuss and vote?

A: The nominees will be placed in this topic, where members will be allowed to freely discuss, and then votes can be PMed to me the same as nominations were.

Q: I want in, but it's full!

A: Please sign-up anyway, you'll be added to a reserve list. Everytime the panel decides one member is taking far too long to do their duty, they will vote that member off. A reserve will come into his place. The member who was kicked off may re-sign as a reserve, and the cycle continues.

If you have any other questions, please PM me!

I'd be the first to be voted in, thank you very much.

I wouldn't mind a talksox hall of fame for the hell of it. At the very least it would be entertaining. Hah, we could have an exhibit for stupidest posts.

Okay.

Its a good idea on paper, but you'd have too many members who were left out. Can you imagine leaving out a guy like yankeehater?

"y u leave me out, i betcha i smarter den u are"

Do you really want an entire wing dedicated to SoxFan#1?
