Is it just me or is the Scoreboard on the Monster a little out of hand. AL Scoreboard...ok NL Scoreboard...um sure W.B. Mason?...If the club really needs the money. CVS....a druggist ad in the MLB, well thats ironic, but who the hell is FW Webb and why is the scoreboard now the entire length of the wall?

Heres a link to a picture of the board from the past....i cant post links yet but here's a partial url

Hmm, I had forgotten about that post limit for urls. I may lower the requirements.

And yes, the old scoreboard was much preferable to this heinous monstrosity they use today. I feel like it's changed the way the ballpark as a whole looks.

umm.. I honestly dont give a s*** whats on the scoreboard. One of the least important things to worry about.

Agreed....as long as it tells you the score, who really cares?

its there to...

1. Give you the score and the scores of other games.

2. For advertisements to make money and help companies sell their stuff.

Who cares how much stuff is on the wall.......As long as it generates extra cash for the Sox I am all for it......Hell in the 1940's the whole was covered in advertisements.

Thanks for clearing that one up. I was under the impression that a scoreboard was there to sell us churros and root beer.

Do we want to get to the point where every square inch is an advertisement? Would we want players uniforms looking like something from NASCAR?

I don't want it on the uniforms but I could care less what is around the park. As long as the sox make money and use to on the major league payroll, minor league system, scouting and drafting, and international free agent signings they can put as much ads around the park as they want.

How funny would it be to see A-Rod with a big blue VIAGRA across his chest?

Like someone else mentioned the original wall for Boston was all ads and thats it. The ads are at least green and blend in so I dont care. I care more about the big f*cking Coke bottle on top of the monster personally.

FW Webb is the "official" plumbing and heating supple to the sox. The scoreboard is fine, at least it is just green and white. I would not do anymore though--i don't want fenway looking like NASCAR.

But it changes the way the wall plays. These ads are raised away from the wall and are metal, thus, now the entire length of the wall has a sheet metal base molding. Also the ads were painted over in 1947 and the name green monster was born. Furthermore these ads were flush to the wall and did not change the playing characteristics of the wall, whereas the modern ads altered the feild of play. I dont like how a coroporation has influence over a matter such as this, and I think there should be a limit on advertisiments in all parks, whats to stop parks from becoming milliondollarhomepage.com

Well now that you bring up WB Mason there's a question I have that I've been pondering for quite some time...

Does the WB stand for "Who But" or is it just a catch phrase that so happens to be abbrv. to WB?

I don't think it stands for Who But because they ads always say "Who But WB Mason" so they would just be repeating it twice (Who But Who But Mason).

If it helps increase player salary I honestly don't care. If the team ever got to the point of an extremely low salary and increased ads then I would start to get pissed. As of now I don't have a problem with it. The only part of the monster with the ads is the bottom anyways so I doubt the bounces would go much different since its probably juts going to bounce right into the ground anyways.
