Barbaro suffers fracture in leg

He was then pulled up from the race following a bad step soon after the race had started. X-rays taken shortly after the race indicated that Barbaro suffered fractures above and below his back right ankle, requiring major surgery.

 

Could have been one of the immortals. You gotta feel bad for the horse though. His life takes a complete turn in one second.

Its very unfortunate that he didn't finish this race because of an injury but you have to hand it to nuemy that he picked the winning horse.

He looked like a special horse. He had triple crown written all over him. A damn shame.

I posted in another thread about this, but I'll say it again. I don't really believe in horse racing and this it is horrible all this went down. The horse really is not going anywhere with it's life now. It makes you cringe inside at how sad it really is.

Watching Barbaro fall back, then limp all over the place, was truly sad.

 

At this point, they're just HOPING to be able to save his life. If the surgery goes well enough, they can. But all the vets and docs seems to be bracing the public for the fact they will have to put him down.

 

The jockey did a great job of pulling him up as soon as he realized something was amiss.

 

I just hope for the best for him and they can put him out to stud.

On Sportscenter they said the injury, if it happened to a person, would require that person to be in bed for six weeks.

Yeah, same here. I'll try and check out the big ones (if a horse is going for the Triple Crown, anyway), but no way in hell would I watch the smaller races.

i agree, i was watching the news tonite and they said they hope the surgery goes well so they can breed the horse to make more money , well they didnt say the money part but obviously thats what it is

What's a horse going to do with money? This isn't like slavery. A horse lacks sentience in order to feel repressed. Besides, horses in the wild usually are perfect targets for Puma's, and Lions. I'm sure having your body ripped into pieces is probably a better way to die.

 

Besides, getting fresh exercise, being fed probably the best food in order to make the horse stronger, and getting heaps of attention on you would probably make the horse feel pretty good (if it feels anything at all)

 

Oh, and being a stallion wouldn't be a bad problem.

You guys suck. I never understood why they had to put the horse down after a broken leg. Turns out it's only because of possible infection or poor circulation - I thought it would be because they will usually break it again before it's healed.

 

The owners had insurance on the horse so they'd have gotten a ton of cash anyway had they not saved him. They are already wealthy and wanted to try and save the horse's life. What in the hell is wrong with that? And even if it IS for the cash, how can saving his life for any reason be a bad one??
