do you guys know that Matt Clement has the second worst ERA of all the qualifying pitchers from July 1,2005 until now and if you counted his playoff outing, he'd have the worst? That is baffling....

Not really...

I think the Red Sox will give Lester a chance over Alvarez for the pure fact that Alvarez is a soft tossing flyball pitcher while Lester is a strikeout pitcher.

Agree here. Ginter is a career minor leaguer, and Ive never understood the hype of Abe Alvarez, I thought he woulda been traded by now. Alvarez doesnt have much stuff, doesnt throw hard, and gives up a ton of flyballs, thats a recipe for disaster at the Fen.

I'd at least give Lester the chance to show what he's got, and it could be a good measure of how close he is to coming up. Depending on how he does we could detremine whether to give him a year or call him up in September.

Matt Clement may Suck..but the Yankees have 2 Matt Clements, in Wright and Pavano. At least we only have to pay 1 Jobber.

only one of them starts, and btw, Wright is better than Clement at this juncture....

You are still paying Pavano for sitting on his ass...oops, I heard that is a SORE subject with Carl..anyhow.. To say Wright is better that Clement is debatable..I liken it to saying having genital warts is better than having siphilus.

Pavano will be back soon. I hope he can actually pitch this yr...

At this juncture Wright is practically more valuable than Randy Johnson. But its still early guys....Matt Clement could get hot for a couple starts and bring his ERA back down to around 4.50. Thats still not anything amazing but you still have to consider he is a back of the rotation guy. Every now and then he can be lights out and although it wasn't a great game against Texas...in most efforts he would have been keeping us in that game.

Right now I would love to see David Wells come in, be healthy, and push Clement down to the #5 spot in the rotation. If that occurs then its now Clement's job to lose while a minor-league prospect attempts to make the jump. Chances are you will see Matt Clement on this team for the rest of the season unless injuries occur or some team is crazy to make a deal.

clement should be DFA effective immediately

his era is in the high 6's and he is so inconsistent

He's still owed $18 million, so Im not sure its that easy to DFA him. I hope Lester can continue to churn out some good innings. Then just dump Clement onto whatever team.

Lester is not the answer this year, but if Cement Head keeps imploding and Wells' knee doesn't hold up the FO may be forced to pursue Willis and give up Lester and maybe more.

Geez where to begin with Clement. It's obvious that he has something wrong physically (his leg) and mentally (getting hit). After he got hit tonight he fell apart, he was even ducking on some pitches after they were hit. Whether the sox or he can admit it or not, he has problems and his leg will heal----but i am not so sure about his head! Mentally it looks like he's lost! Really sad too becuase he has good stuff!

they wont go after willis. The sox had enough surrounding lester to make the beckett deal. Now, they'd have to give up their top pitching prospects, Lester and Hansen and Pedroia or Ellsbury to get him. They want 2 top pitching prospects and one top offensive prospect. Pipe dreamin bro. You are gonna have to fill from within. Clement is a lost cause man, he looks completely lost, and when he could stop the bleeding, he didnt have the balls to do it. If wells cannot last the entire yr, and the odds are he wont, you will have 2 holes in your rotation. I know Tito is loyal, but if Clement stays over 6era, there is no way he keeps his job. Hence, you'll likely be shuttling DiNardo, Alvarez, Ginter, Lester, and Hansen as your 4 and 5, and that is assuming Beckett and Schill stay healthy which is no guarantee. We have been hit hard with injuries so far, but we are both having rotation probs....

I’d like to see the Sox continue with Clement but with Tito pulling him out of the game quicker if he starts to show signs of blowing up. He does have good stuff when he’s on.

Relying on unproven prospects to fill the holes in the rotation doesn’t seem to be the solution at this point in the season.

Clement is awful, its unaccpetable for this team to contiune to let him pitch. I would rather watch Lester learn his way on the Major League seen, rather than watch Clement get bombed every frigging start

If Clement continues to give performances like that then Lester will come up an learn on the job because they are not mortgaging the future for an all out run this year. Clement is awful in the AL and the Red Sox will figure out a way after the 2006 season to get rid of him even if it means eating most of his contract because its gotten to the point where he cannot be salvaged.

Yeah, when I start to agree that Matt Clement should be given up on, I think then he might be past the point of no return because I love the guy. I hope someone from the farm does get a call, it can't be any worse.

i dont see the front office standing idle this july

with schill and beckett in form theyre the best team in the east

we all know this whether the yank fans want to admit or not

dontrelle willis is struggling this year so far

there will be other deals on the table for a decent starter and we have the goods in the minors to get deals done

ny has s*** and shinola to deal and shinola left the building

theo stood pat last summer and we started the playoffs with clement wells and wakefield

we got swept and lost our title

i dont see him standing still this july and if we have to deal a couple of unproven youngsters to get us a horse then so be it

some people thought in march that we had enough pitching to get it done

then we dealt arroyo.....

now??

now it seems that weve got 2 studs,1flake in clement,1 inconsistant guy in wake and a 300lb question mark in david wells....with an army of arms in the minors ready to roll.

its may 25th and im disappointed but not delusional

the only year since 1998 we havent been in 1st place on 6-1 was 2004

trading nomar made this team click down the stretch in 04

prior to that theos mid season deals have essentially been failures

suppan sauerback bunny kim and cliff floyd come to mind

look for them to step up this year

Tito needs to put Cement Head and Wakefield on shorter leashes. He has to get them out of their before they blow up, even if it means taking them out with a lead before they go 5. In the long run it should help build Cement Head's confidence in that he won't have to live through nightmarish games like last night.

clement is no different today than he was when he broke in with sandiego

no different than when he pitched for the cubs

he will find ways to lose

he will never ever be consistant

he doesnt have the mental capacity to handle stress

never did

never will
