I haven't been here in a while, so it might have been talked about before - so forgive me if it has... but...

...wtf is going on with this pitching staff? We went from 6 starters to 4. If I have to watch Dinardo again I'm gonna rake my eyes out.

I know Papelbon is burning people alive closing - but come the hell on... would you rather have him pitching 200 innings or 70??? Foulke has looked better lately, looks like he's getting back into form.

Why this s*** wouldn't we put Papelbon in the rotation now and see if Foulke can close? Seeing Foulke blow a save or two in a month is better than losing 5 games for us like our current fifth starters will do. And I don't think Foulke will even blow saves... his changeup is looking really good lately.

Paps in the rotation NOW damnit.

Well I guess I'll respond to the previous question: our #5 starter.

Obviously I don't think DiNardo or Ginter would be the answer as our #5 starter but maybe someone else does. Its possible David Wells comes back and stops delaying his return acting like a baby. Roger Clemens is a possibility to take over a spot. The Red Sox could deal with the problem until Lester is ready later in the year (sounds like they are forcing him to work on secondary pitches and have a strict pitch count...usually means they have something planned for him). We could also wait until Craig Hansen is ready to come up then move Papelbon into the rotation. There are also still the rumors of Dontrelle Willis. So I guess it could be a number of things and I'll recap my thoughts:

DiNardo, Ginter, Lester, Papelbon, Wells, Clemens, Willis

as a number 5 starter id like to have willis ,we need a good lefty starter , unfortinutely we would probly have to give up to much for him , who knows whats the FO up to :dunno:

If Lenny struggles in his next start it will likely be Ginter getting the shot. With Cla Meredith being traded the Red Sox freed up a 40 man roster spot for someone like Ginter to get.

WEEI

Concerning Lenny DiNardo, his next start has been moved back to Sunday. In between then he will be used out of the bullpen. Pushing Lenny back avoids the Sox from him starting in the Yankee series next week. This also will allow the other starters to pitch on regular rest.

Here's the next 3 series

Toronto

Josh Beckett vs Roy Halladay

Matt Clement vs Josh Towers

Baltimore

Curt Schilling vs Rodrigo Lopez

Tim Wakefield

Lenny DiNardo

@ New York

Josh Beckett

Matt Clement

Curt Schilling

Would you put Lester into a deal for Willis.?

I know I suck, but I probably wouldn't. I love the idea of bringing up a new guy with potential. This whole Papelbon ride (for me) is more fun than watching Beckett achieve his potential. I know I'm wrong, I know know know. But still, I think it's more fun my way.

In a heart beat, but not if Hansen is part of the package.

I agree with you so don't beat yourself up over it haha. I really like bringing guys up as well and seeing them achieve great things on only one team. I'm real excited to see what Jon Lester can do.

The one thing about him that really gets me is how some scouts can say he is better than Papelbon.....that speaks volumes because I'm pretty damn impressed with Paps thus far.

I think its fun watching both ;)

why not trade lester for willis. Wllis is already a proven start is only like 25 its not like hes an odl washed up veteran we could have him for years to come. Now if hanson were n the deal with lester thats defently a no because its jsut too much.

It will cost more than just Lester for Willis. Try like 3-4 of the Red Sox upper tier prospects.

I heard a rumor the Marlins wanted David Wright for Dontrelle Willis. If that was true then the Mets laughed in there face.....no way the Mets would trade Wright for Lester so we aren't on the same page yet.

Personally I have to shy from the deal because I still have a feeling Jon Lester will be an excellent pitcher....now that Francisco Lariano is in the majors Lester is considered the top lefty starter in the minors. He is 22 years old and I wouldn't put it past him he could be Dontrelle Willis in 3 years when he is 25.

If the Red Sox can't figure out the #5 starter situation for a while I'm sure they would give Lester a shot at some point....what happens if he shows the same impact that Papelbon has thus far?? All of a sudden we would kick ourselves for making the move. Not to mention the extra talent we would have to throw in. If anything I would expect Theo Epstein to hold on to all of our young talent incase he needs to boost our hitting later in the season.

The Mets wouldn't trade Wright for any player in the league. He's in that next wave of great players.

I'm not sold on Lester as I've never seen him pitch, but I also wouldn't trade our 3 top spects for Willis.

There are few pitchers who can come in and have the impact Paps has. If Lester can do that, I'd be amazed.

I'm not sure we need more hitting. I love our defense, and I don't think I'd sacrifice any of it for another bat. Once Coco comes back Youk can go back to the bottom of the lineup. It'll add a much needed consistant stick down there to drive in runs. The offense will be fine.

I got to watch Lester pitch in spring training and a few times last season...great chance he is the real deal. Nobody will be sold on him until he makes his mark in the majors. If you wanted a comparison this is the best I can do (maybe someone can do better)....

Fastball, obviously the nod goes to Papelbon who throws a dart. Lester may have more movement but he doesn't have the same velocity. Lester does have better secondary pitches from what I have seen. The curve and change are better delivered through Lester's motion. When it comes down to there "stuff" both are real talented...I guess the big difference at this point is control. Papelbon does nothing but throw strikes. As the season moves on I think you will see Lester really gain strong control and if he does....look out...and thats why I would want to wait on the kid. I really have a feeling he can be a top pitcher in the league and possibly sooner rather than later

To get Willis we would prbabaly have to give up Lester, Hansen and one fo oru top position prospects, since this is never happening don't get your hopes up on Willis.

I want Clemens of course he's going to be a little bitch and wait a month to decide his team even though we could use him right now.

I'm not sure the Marlins would go as far as asking for our top three prospects. If what has been said is true, they are serious about moving him cause they can't afford him. No team is going to trade three prospects of that caliber for one player. The Red Sox already turned down trading Jon Lester to the Marlins when dealing for Josh Beckett and I don't think Willis is that much better.

Im not sure the portly portsider is the answer..

He may pitch a month or two, but I cant see those knees holding that load ( and from all reports there isnt anything left in those knees) for very long..

So I for one wouldnt put my eggs in that basket.

I'd be willing to give Alvarez the spot. DiNardo is a bullpen guy and that's that. Last resort would be Lester I suppose, but I don't want to rush him. I'll deal with Wells if he can just keep us in a game. At this point, DiNardo can't even do that.

Im all for Abe getting the ball. It should be Wells, until he breaks down, and then hopefully you will have a chance to see Abe work a few starts before the trading deadline comes down...
