First of all its "TEK" there is no "c" in Jason Varitek's name anywhere.

 

Second of all Teks bat has been prety cold to start judging that he's hitting .219 he was 1-4 tonight.

 

I'll give you Lowell he has been a plesent surprise though I expected a few homers...

actually Tek has brought his average to (.250) and currently enjoys a 7 game hitting streak--- 8 for 27 (.296 avg) Double, Triple, HR, 2 RBIs, 6 Runs, 5 Walks

They are both hitting the ball pretty well. With that said i still wish lowell could hit well when it counts. It just seems to me (with no stats in front of me right now) that when we need him to he craps out but when we don't need him to he hits well. I am not complaining about his hitting, just wish he could spread it out to when it really matters!

This is exactly how i feel! i know he can hit, but he always seems to get a double with 2 out and no one on. But i'll take it, because he's been one of the only good guys we've had at the plate all year.

the C on his jersey does belong in front.. it wasn't a random mistake..

 

as for tek earning his money. unless he's another pudge, and i don't mean i-rod he won't earn the 4 year 40 mill.... his bat speed is garbage at the end of the season.

The neat thing about Lowell is that he's hitting well both on the road and at home. I kind of expected Mike Lowell to hit well at home and crappy on the road.

 

However, he's hitting .315/.377/.500 on the road and .324/.361/.529 at home.

 

So far this guy has been good enough considering he was part of the "price" of getting Josh Beckett.

are you serious????? Ya we paid him a lot of money but he's worth it. He is widely regarded as a great (some people think best) catcher in the game. (with regard to working with the staff) I think too many people see what he does at the plate (forgetting the recent game where he get's a hit to put the sox ahead late in the game) and don't realize what he does behind the plate and off camera. When we find tek's replacement down the road, it's going to be nice to have someone that he can mentor.

Sure, they overpaid. But how much do you pay for a catcher who wins the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award in the first year of his new contract?

Its a whole lot different than 4 years at 8 per.

 

Hes an old man in catchers years. You know he wont be worth a bag of crap his fith year so you are essentially oversigning him..

Well right, but your also talking about his salary there and suggesting he's overpaid. If it was 5 years at 4/5 per I doubt this would be as big of a deal.

 

But regardless of what you meant, I agree with you in that the Sox signed him for too long. His bat speed sometimes looks slower than my grandma driving on the highway.

He signed a 4 year deal at 40 million..

 

Most people were talking his true value... 3 at 9 per...

 

That I could swallow.

 

He signed reportedly an uncontested ( read no othe bidders) a 4 year deal.

 

So instead of 27M he got 40 M,, my point was if he really is earning that $$ in his fourth year I, and most people in baseball will be shocked...

 

Is he worth 10 this year? Maybe.. Next year?... who knows.. Year after? Doubtful..

Alot of the value of Tek is behind the plate, not just with the bat. And he is still doing a good job back there.
