Sox lose bid for SOX to WBOS 92.9FM.

 

Saw it on insidethemonster.com yesterday.

 

The listed out a new format for all Sox programming.

the games/production are good, but jeez 28 miles away from boston and EEI is nearly useless in terms of reception.

 

could be like BCN and the Pats. They want in. But the talk radio machine won't burp over this too much...

Yeah, I hear you. If the reception goes bad though, put it on 1080AM, and the WEEI telecast will be on there. That reception lasts all the way until you reach the Mass./NY border.

EEI sucks anyways.. those guys don't know anything about baseball. i took my mother for an MRI a couple months ago and almost threw up listening to them while waiting in the car.

Occasionally Ordway has something good to say, and there are sometimes other guys whose names I don't really pay attention to who know a good deal but for the most part listening to EEI is tough. They say a lot of stupid things. I remember once when Ordway said that Papelbon wasn't going to ever be a factor on this team, ever. He argued that Papelbon would never in his career have double digit wins and over a full season that he would never be able to keep his ERA under 4.

Is it going to be on FM? I haven't really looked into this story much? More Questions:

 

Do they stop broadcasting after this season or immediately?

Has it been announced what station they will be on? 'tract signed?

Stupid questions, but I just don't know and I don't want to go hunting for it.

 

THis is a huge hit to WEEI. It's horrible, I am a fan of weei. I like the Sportsflashes. This will hopefully not be the first sign of a downfall.

This really doesn't affect me at all. Being In New York, I have to HOPE for an ESPN game because I can't get nesn. Radio I can't even use, I usually end up watching it on that gamecast thing from mlb.com

Wow, hard to believe. What's really hillarious about this is the fact that now when there is a day game on the guys from "the big show" won't be able to leave early to watch the game. They have always gotten that time off becuase of the broadcast coming up on WEEI,,,,now they will have to always do their jobs.

 

Anyway, WEEI is good--i listen online and don't mind "dale and holley" and "the big show" (sometimes i can't stand it though). I hope they keep the same announcers!

i don't listen to what anyone says about the sox on the radio unless they are on the team. i swear to god i have yet to hear one person say anything good on the radio.

Entercom is keeping the rights to the Red Sox with the games likely to move to WRKO, the sister station of WEEI.

WEEI is complete drivel. Sometimes the weekend stuff with the reoprters they bring in is okay. The rest of it just poisons the fan base, and I feel like I've lost brain cells just by tuning in.

CBS4boston.com reports that Greater Media has withdrawn its bid to broadcast Red Sox radio games for the upcoming season.

 

(CBS4) BOSTON Greater Media has announced that it is withdrawing its bid for the future broadcast rights for the Boston Red Sox. That means the Sox will be staying on WEEI Radio.

 

“This was a difficult decision,” said President and CEO of Greater Media, Inc. Peter Smyth. “But at the end of the day, the deal didn’t make enough economic sense for the company.”

 

Greater Media is the parent company of 19 AM and FM radio stations in Boston, including WBOS, 92.9 Talk and Magic 106.7.

 

The Red Sox’ contract with WEEI was set to expire after this season.

The deal with Entercom (WEEI/WRKO) is for 10 years at 200 Million dollars. Its the richest Radio contract in MLB History.
