Red Sox wrap up 10-game homestand against Devil Rays

Tampa Bay (7-8) at Boston (11-4) 7:05 pm EDT

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Red Sox have to like their chances of completing a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield on the mound.

With an impressive history of success against the Devil Rays, Wakefield will start Thursday as the Red Sox look to finish their 10-game homestand with seven wins.

The 39-year-old Wakefield (1-2, 4.34 ERA) went 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in five starts against Tampa Bay last season, improving his lifetime record to 13-1 against the Devil Rays. The 13 wins are tied for his most against any team.

Wakefield will try to extend a five-game winning streak overall for Boston, which has won its last eight meetings against Tampa Bay at Fenway Park. Curt Schilling won his fourth straight start with six strong innings and Mike Lowell highlighted a seven-run third with a two-run double in Wednesday's 9-1 triumph.

The Devil Rays will seek just their second win in their last 13 games here with 22-year-old ace Scott Kazmir (1-1, 4.82) on the mound. Kazmir has allowed just four runs in his last two starts after being pounded for six runs and eight hits in four innings of a 9-6 Opening Day loss at Baltimore.

Ty Wigginton, who has become Tampa Bay's full-time third baseman since Aubrey Huff went on the disabled list last week, leads the club with six home runs in just 49 at-bats. Wigginton's career high in home runs is 12, established as a member of the New York Mets in 2004.

Should be a good game. Wake only has one loss since 99 against the rays, however Kazmir has seemed to have the sox number. Should be fun to watch, and let's hope they win another one!

wats the over/under on how many batters Kazmir hits tonight?

i think he'll hit atleast 2

I would love to see him hit 2 guys (as long as no-one is injured) in the first inning. With the warnings the umps have got from MLB, he would get tossed doing that. I would love to see him tossed early in the game:D

Wake looked good Saturday. Hopefully Bard can catch the ball tonight.

I got a feeling WMP contributes in a big way tonight. Just a hunch.

It should be a good game tonight, and as I'm typing this some fine girl just walked by with a mini skirt on dancing around and shaking her ass. Today is a good day.

he'll hit one early, the first inning or the second, and get a stern warning but in the fifth or sixth inning, if he is still in the game, he will peg someone and get tossed. so, 2. but i wouldnt be suprised to see anyone get the boot after one hit batsman because of the previous history.
