The 10 day waiting period started 8 days ago I believe. They're waiting the 10 days to let swelling go down so they know just how serious it is. If it healed well in the 10 days, he could be back as soon as the 15 days expires for the DL. If it looks bad it would be 6 more weeks.

The important thing I'm pointing out, we should know a lot more in 2 days.

We should know something soon---however i would hope that they let it heal until they are sure he is 100%. We don't need any nagging injury, so i would be happy to be without him now, then have a nagging injury later in the year!

I'd say another 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. Crisp has been known to heal quickly so you never know.

how do you know that he heals quickly, that is f***ing hilarious, lol.

You wait 10 days, not really for the swelling to go down, but for the fracture to present itself. Radiographic views of hand fractures lag behing by about 7-10 days. Many times, the fracture isnt seen for a week and sometimes the fracture that is seen early is shown to be much much worse after it "matures". Either way, a simple knuckle fracture takes about 3-4 weeks to heal, that is why I said he should likely be ready by the end of april or the first week of may. IF, they scan that knuckle and it is a larger fracture that anticipated or is a slightly displaced fracture, he might need pinning and that would be 4-6 weeks FROM THE DATE OF DIAGNOSIS (ie after the 10 day waiting period). That would put him out until the end of May. If I was a betting man, I'd say that that isnt the case and he'd be back in about 2-3 weeks from today....

How is it hilarious? Some athletes are known to heal more quickly than others.

What was his last injury and how long did it take to heal?

How about the one before that?

Before that?

It is a garbage can term that anyone likes to say when there is no actual proof of it unless you can document them consistently recovering early from injury prior to initially prognostic date....

I almost never agree with the rivinator--however i think what he meant was that it's kind of dumb to assume that it's 2-2.5 weeks based on the fact that "he heals quickly" He may heal quicker than someone else with the same injury--but we don't really know the extent of the injury yet. he may heal quickly, but you can't put a timetable on it!

Coco will heal. I mean, his name is coco.

All joking aside, we need him, I mean we can get by with mohr and such for now but we should have a good, if I may use the term "damonesque" leadoff hitter. And besides, what does he have that damon never had? The name coco.

a little flare. We get him back it will help us. the faster the better.

He'll be back in about 2-4 weeks from now, as he will likely be working out in a week...

From today's Boston Herald:

Coco Crisp was given clearance to expand his workout activities after X-rays on the fractured knuckle below his left index finger revealed continued healing.

If this means he can take BP, maybe he is back in uniform by the end of the week. Then I hope I never have to see Willie Harris ever again.

That was before the X-ray results. Tito is always very cautious and conservative. The two weeks is probably an outside date set by the medical staff before the X-ray results. I think based on the "expanded workout" remark that he will be patrolling CF by the end of the week.

Let's just hope they make sure he is 100% healthy before he comes back---make sure you get it right guys! We can wait a couple extra games now--but not later in the season!

Even if he can start taking BP soon it will still be a tleast two weeks.

We don't wantto rush him back, we don't want to ruin him fo rthe rest of the season trying to grab an extra week in May.

His ETA was May 15. The likely ETA is at least 10-14 days from when he can start hitting again and he likely will need a game or two of either rehab or simulated BP before he is ready. His injury is a bad one in that it totally disallows him to keep up with his timing. He canot swing a bat. It isnt like a hammy where he could still take BP but can't run. He's likely to miss the first 5 games of the rivalry.....

Yikes! No way it takes him two weeks of BP before he can come back. He'll take BP sessions for two days in a row to see how the hand reacts--- any swellin, discomfort etc. Without any setbacks, he takes some AB's in one or two simulated games and he is back within the wee barring any setbacks.

700, I was watching Sports Final last night and he's stll in a cast. He's doing some long throws and lifting weights. They didn't say when the cast was coming off. I'm guessing that the manner in which this has been handled ( cautious ) 2 weeks sounds about right.

The last I heard was that Coco was expected back in Mid-May, which would put May 15th as just about the time we should expect him back.

I'd love it if he could be back before then, as I'll be in Baltimore for the game on the 16th. Get well soon Coco!
