I figured I'd give it a whirl, mix things up a little.

Josh Beckett vs. Jarrod Washburn

After Washburn allowed six runs and nine hits in five innings against the red-hot Guardians, he said he let his teammates down. It wasn't his best performance by any means, but he was facing one of the top offenses in the league. Washburn gave up back-to-back home runs in the fifth to Jhonny Peralta and Travis Hafner. He's 3-2 with a 4.44 ERA ERA in his career against Boston.

Beckett struggled in the first inning in each of his two starts, only to settle down enough to have a superb outing in each game. The right-hander has given up 10 hits and two earned runs over 14 innings. This is Beckett's second career start against the Mariners. He lost the first one, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs over 6 2/3 innings.

That was a very very bad call. I don't know how that happened. What is wrong with refs and umpires lately? The super bowl was terrible, most of the NFL playoffs were god awful, and so far this season all over baseball the umpires have been blowing calls all over the field.

I'm watching on MLB TV and its really annoying, their gun is off and Becketts fastball is around 86 mph. Kinda scary. But then his curve was at like 65, so clearly something was wrong.

clearly it is. Jerry Remy from NESN keeps saying, 94-97 range

97? Nope.

As for Pena, I'll stick by almost any move by Theo, but dang, it's not looking like the Arroyo trade was one of his most logical. Especially if they knew about the Well's situation.

Pena trade was fine. He'll be a good hitter and the Wells situation isn't a situation as soon as they stretch out Papelbon.

Well, they are not going to remove Pap from closer until they feel they have someone who can close out a game. I don't know yet Foulke is ready - or if he will be.

I'm diggin' this VanBuren guy. He had great closer numbers in the minors - but he's the long guy.
