I found it over at Baseball-Almanac.com while looking for a clear description of the criteria of the rule (in an attempt to answer HHM's query).

AL: 34 games - George Sisler, St. Louis, 1925

NL: 44 games - Willie Keeler, Baltimore, 1897

ahh, Wee Willie Keeler. A fine Yankee from the pre-glory days.

It's a shame you guys beat us out for the 1904 pennant, it'd be interesting how Yankee history played out. They probably would have been more respected rather than being looked at as the poor welfare case.

I dunno, I can see both points of view on this. Someone find this out

If you go 0-0 with 4 walks, or even 0-0 with 3 walks and a Sacrifice then it's not counted against you. You have to have an AB in the game and not get a hit for it to be ended.

No source, just going by prior knowledge. However, I am absolutely CERTAIN.

you are absolutely WRONG!!!

any game that you have a plate appearance is considered a game in the streak. Hence, if you pinch hit and walk, you lose the streak...

Rule 10.24 of the Major League Baseball Official Rule Book states the following guidelines for cumulative performance records (specifically those dealing with hitting streaks):

A consecutive hitting streak shall not be terminated if the plate appearance results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly shall terminate the streak.

Consecutive Game Hitting Streaks: A consecutive game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all the player's plate appearances (one or more) result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt.

I looked at the exact same page when looking for a ruling on this earlier, and I must have just skimmed it without reading closely. Thanks for posting that Stocker. I really need to try and read things more carefully.

Spanning it over 2 seasons is cheating. Asterisk!

But in all seriousness, the day in day out grind of baseball is what makes it so hard to get a streak of 56. An offseason in between kind of cheapens it.

That you!!...Everyone that I ever talk to says to me that Rollins has it harder than Dimmaggio did...I know this is late since its over...but I didn't think this one was as fair to the people who had long, regular season streaks, like Dimaggio, Rose, Damon......

So keeping a streak alive after a 5 month off-season is unfair? Dimaggio was at laest playing in games in the same season. Rollins had a huge gap and had to try to keep his streak up after not hitting at all for 5 months. That's harder IMO.

Dimaggio had to play EVERYDAY..and for(probably) a 65 day span have hits in 56 games....Rollins got a nice 5 month break...Ice his legs, and then have about 4 weeks to take hits and all that in the preseason, so pretty much have a handful of games to get ready and then he had to do it for real. This was a situation where I figured if he did break it, then I wouldn;t be that mad, becuase Its not cheating or anything he could control, but its not like he had 52 last season and 5 this to break it, it was half and half.

So I wasn't mad at players, but at the situation, and the fact that I like to preserve the past...

it's hard to adjust from at the beggining of the season. so yeszir you might not need an asterisk.

Yeah but the record *******s already said its two different records.
