AWESOME! I've liked Willy Mo since the first time I got to see him, and I think he'll be a very nice addition to our OF, especially considering all we had to give up was Bronson.

Welcome Willy Mo.

I liked Bronson and thank him for his contributions but for the Red Sox to get Wily Mo Pena for Arroyo is a steal especially if Wily Mo ever lives up to what he was suppose to become and there is still time since he is only 24. Arroyo's trade value was not going to be any higher.

Talk about loyalty. Now I think you guys should know why people like Damon go to the highest bidder. Its because of things like this. Arroyo like an idiot took a hometown discount and they ended up trading him anyway.

He had to know signing that contract that he might get traded. He has been in trade rumors for the past couple years.

He didn't have a no trade clause in his deal and for the Red Sox they got some value in this trade in Wily Mo Pena who is only 24. It's a business and for the Red Sox this is a business decision to improve the team.

yeah but dont you think its a little hypocritical to call it a business decision for the Red Sox but in another thread just kill Damon for going to the highest bidder. That was just business too. (I dont remember where you stood on the issue but this is for the people who called Damon a traiter for going to the highest bidder then praise this move by the Red Sox after Arroyo gave the Sox a discount to stay.

Arroyo was inconsistent for his entire tenure here and when a deal presented itself that got the Sox a good, proven player in return, they jumped at it. Is Theo supposed to keep Arroyo and watch him get lit up on every outing just cause he took a hometown discount? We have depth at a position and we sacrificed some of that depth to make up for lack of depth in another position. He did what GMs do.

By the way, I don't see how you compare this to Damon. Damon left cause the Yankees gave him more money than anyone else wanted to. Last time I checked, the Yankees roster was chock full of players just like that so don't single out the Sox as a team with no loyalty just cause they didn't wanna overpay on Damon.

Your missing the point. This isnt about the Red Sox not giving Damon the big contract. I dont care about that. The point is that Red Sox fans were killing Damon for going to the highest bidder. Then you have Bronson Arroyo who took a discount too stay and he ended up getting traded regardless.

Welcome Willy Mo.

I agree 100%

He's just 24, so there is good possibility that Papa Jack and his new teammates can help him on his strike zone presence. Last 2 seasons he's had 600 ABs, in that time he hit 45 HRs. So obviously he's a power threat. Maybe Im getting little bit far of myself but... you place him in Fenway for 81 games out of the year, we could have ourselves a 40 HR slugger on our hands

What's your opinion abou the trade? All this other stuff about loyalty is crap. Sure the fans will be upset when a star leaves the Sox, and it is not at all hypocritical to be happy when the team improves itself by a trade. What is your point? Should the Red Sox fans criticize the FO or protest at Fenway because they traded Bronson to improve the team? Just discuss the baseball aspects of the trade. BTW who is the 4th OF for the Yanks-- Bernie? He's looking a little long in the tooth.

So, your point is that we should be unhappy about the trade?

Wily Mo has great potential, but PLEASE do not call him a good, proven player. Please see my posts about career BA and OBP.

Its obviously a good trade. But for noone here to even bring up the fact that the guy took a discount to stay then got traded I think its ridicules. Talk about twisting a knife in someones back. This is why I cant stand when fans complain about loyalty because the second the team gets someone better your ready to kick them out. Then again this is sports today anyway.

No just dont get upset about player leaving your team to go to the highest bidder. Its hypocrital to do that then turn around and cheer a trade after the player that got traded took a discount to stay and ended up getting traded.
