Well, Seanez gave up the one run and then got out of it--true! However he didn't pitch that well. If it wasn't for a couple stellar defensive plays by cora at short and pinckney at 3rd, the inning could have been a lot worse!

you are right about that, but hey its something we should get used to for this season ;)

The defense that is...

Curt Schilling in today's start against a minor league team

Curt Schilling threw 91 pitches in a minor league game Sunday against Cincinnati and allowed four runs in six innings. He struck out 11 and walked none, so he couldn't have been too bad. Schilling hsa pitched in minor league games in back-to-back outings, throwing six innings each time. He didn't give up any runs on Wednesday.

Although I agree, that there's no need to dump on the kid, I don't want to hear your constant inferences of Yankee fan hatred. We've got some very good Yankees fans that make significant contributions.
Screw the Yankee fans. They've got a lot of abuse coming their way. I will not personally attack any of them unless they personally attack me, but I will freely abuse their team.

Whats wrong with Yankees fan? My favorite member on this site is a yankees fan, one of my good friends is a yankees fan its not a big deal. Did a yankees fan kill your dog or something? Its a rivalry, not a war. *hugs george steinbrenner* *shakes hands with george castanza*

That's fine for you. Different strokes...

Didnt take Papi that long ;) 2nd AB he cranks a HR

Tampa leads 4-1. Wells had allowed 3 runs in the 4th, after allowing 1 run on just 1 hit. Nothing to worry about

-----------------

EDIT: Update- Jon Lester got pounded in his 1st inning of relief. 4 runs on 4 Hits (2 Hrs)

Mark Loretta at the bottom of the same inning helped cut the deficit by hitting a 2 run HR to make it 8-3. Loretta's 2005 season is behind him I very much believe. He is going to be fun to watch, an immediate fan favorite.

Two batters later, Manny belts a HR of his own (2nd) to make it an 8-5 game

In the 7th inning, Alex Cora hits a 2 run HR to make it 9-7

Pena made his debut today.

He went 1-1 with a walk.

Oh, and the Red Sox lost 9-7.

Got a uniform number for me? 26 still?

Hey "26 to 6", here's another player to add to the list who has switched sides of the rivalry. The Sox have added this season: Mike Lowell, J.T. Snow, Wily Mo Pena (all 3 drafted by NY), and Enrique Wilson might get a call-up sometime this season.

About his 2 AB performance, decent unofficial debut in a Sox uniform. And hey he even drew a walk

Doubt it.....that was Boggs number....It won't be given to Pena.

Thats right. Forgot about that.

But I thought that they DIDNT retire Boggs' number at Wade Boggs nught last year?

I would add him, but he never played an actual game for the Yankees. I wish I was able to get a list of guys who played in both ORGANIZATIONS, however I dont, and probably never will. So it wouldnt be right to put some (Carl Everett, Wily Mo, etc) and not have others. So my list has to consist of players who have played a Major League game with both teams.

It is Millar's #15

EDIT: Dirt Dogs has a picture of him in a Sox uni. Just hoping to see pitchers in the future having to deal with Ortiz, then look who's up next & there's Manny, standing on the steps of the dugout is Pena (if reaches potential). Thats intimidation

Hopefully he hits better than Millar did last year. Its encouraging with the single and a walk today. I think the walk makes me more happy than the single because maybe he might be turning a corner in his development.

If he pans out and we still have Manny and Tizzle at that time---then ya that would be a Maalox moment for the pitcher when he hits the 3-4-5 part of the line-up! I know he is young, but I have hope that getting him time with his new best friend "papa jack" will have a huge impact on him this year!

He might make the majors eventually, and he might be pretty good, but he has a long way to go because he doesn't have lights out stuff. I could see him being a John Tudor-type lefty, but Tudor didn't become Tudor over night either. He's going to have to get better command and it will take some time to for him to master his skill. He's a good couple of years away. Those who think he might contribute to the ml team this year will be disappointed.
Above is my review of Lester's first outing. I took a lot of heat for my posts about Lester after his first outing. In his two outings since then, he has confirmed my original impression. The kid has a long way to go and management should get him away from major league hitters quickly before he loses too much confidence. Continuing like this could ruin the kid and his trade value as a top prospect.

(1) as noted its spring training, he is just starting to get back to pitching. Veterans are keen to getting back to pitch faster than rookies.

(2) This has been the first time he's faced batters above AA

(3) The Sox have been offered Schilling (instead gave Fossum), Randy Johnson, Beckett (instead gave Sanchez), Jeremy Reed. The Orioles were also keen on asking for Lester when the Sox & O's were exploring a trade for Tejada without Manny in the mix. A trade of Lester wouldve been done for those names mentioned, if the Sox FO feels like you do.

Its spring freaking training. And his value won't be in a trade it will be with this team eventually.
This is from your crystal ball? Neither of us would bet our house on this outcome. It would be nice if he were to slot into the rotation in a year or two and be a huge success, but that is far from a certainty.

I am sure the kid has potential as the scouts have evaluated. My only point is that he is currently overmatched by major league hitters. I think management risks hurting his confidence if they keep throwing him against major league hitters before he gets his act together. I would think that you would agree that we don't want to see this kid get ruined, if for no other reason than he is a major trading chip.

The Sox are expected to send a travel squad to Tampa on Wednesday to face the Yankees consisting of: pitchers Papelbon and David Riske, catchers Ken Huckaby and Trent Durrington, infielders Mike Lowell, Machado, J.T. Snow and Wilson, and outfielders Willie Harris, Ron Calloway, Dustan Mohr, Pena, and Adam Stern, along with several Minor Leaguers.

This really has nothing to do with todays gameday thread but former Red Sox firstbaseman Dave McCarty is now a studio Analyst for NESN while Sam Horn has apparently been dropped.

One good thing so far about the yankee broadcast is that they showed video of Posada trying to catch a ball with his nose during BP. That's why he's not playing. It looked broken, but with that beak you never know. :dunno:
