it should be ok. it hit his heel. stayed in the game. he wasn't as sharp as we all wanted him to be but its still spring training and plenty of time to work out the kinks.

Two questions: Is papelbons foot ok? How did he look? Don't care about his line, but how did he look?

I thought he was spotting the FB pretty well, just like last year, but he was throwing a lot more breaking pitches. The bomb Hunter hit was on a hanger. I think it's good he's trying to get those secondary pitches game-ready, because he can't live on the FB alone.

i listened on the radio but how many splitters did he throw out there.

I pitch and I know how hard it is to harness the breaking ball coming back to pitching. To me, giving up all your runs on solo homers on hanging breakers is a good sign if anything. Not just saying that.

I'm sure the heel is probably fine if they let him back out on the mound. No way they would have let him back out if there was any doubt at all, he is the future of the team.

I didn't see any of it but have heard good things about that series. You think the WBC will be as interesting?

I don't see this tournament generating much interest at all. The only team I'll be interested in watching will be Cuba, just because no one sees them play and there are some very good players there.

I really enjoy the Carribbean Series. The level of play is very good with a good number of major leaguers on the rosters, except for the goofy play that ended the last game (pop fly bouncing off the DR shortstop's head for the Venezuela win). It comes at a time of the year when I'm ready to see baseball. The fans are really into the games and it's a little different especially the constant playing of music during the game.

I think I only saw one that stuck in my mind. His second pitch to Shannon Stewart to start the game seemed to drop and dive to the right, low and away from Stewart, and he got him to chase.

I just watched highlights off the game, it seems the only hard hit was the HR, everything else was choppers and cheap hits off papelbon

were they showing FB speeds on the mlb.com telecast

from looking at the box score, it looks like Hansen, Delcarmen and Crisp had good games. Riske and Seanez both struggled and Coco was the only one to get more than 1 hit.

Anyone know if the games tommorow are on TV?

Yeah, Papelbon was 90-92, Hansen 92-93, Santana 87-89. That makes me suspect the gun was either a little off or was picking the pitches up closer to the batter since Santana is usually 91-93, Papelbon 93-95, Hansen 94-96. If it was picking the ball up closer to the batter, you can expect 3-4 mph below the release velocity since a 90 mph fastball will actually be about 83 at the plate.

anyone know how schilling did

Schill continues to deliver good reports. He did throw 35 pitches but it was over 4 scoreless innings. Loretta & Willie Harris both had RBI Doubles. Rookie Brandon Moss had a 2 RBi game. I'll release more info as they come.

Schill strong in debut

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

Curt Schilling made a successful spring training debut today against Boston College at City of Palms Park, throwing 35 pitches over four scoreless innings. He gave up one hit and left with a 2-0 lead.

Schilling retired the first 10 hitters he faced before allowing Jett Ruiz's first-pitch single to left field, just out of the reach of Sox shortstop Alejandro Machado. He got out of the fourth inning when BC shortstop Jared McGuire of Harwich hit into a 6-4-3 double play.

Schilling, who threw mostly fastballs but mixed in a few curves and splitters, posted three strikeouts (he fanned the first two batters he faced). The Eagles were swinging early in his counts, which forced Schilling to go a fourth inning to get his pitch count up to the desired 30-35 pitches. He had thrown 23 pitches through three innings.

The Sox got a couple of runs in the third, one on a pop double by center fielder Willie Harrris, scoring Brandon Moss, who had singled with one out. Harris came around on Mark Loretta's double off the left field wall (hit off BC sophomore lefty Nick Napolitano). Moss also knocked in two runs in the fourth with a single.

EDIT: The Sox currently lead 8-0 through the 6th inning. Boston has collected 11 hits, while BC has just 1 hit. Rule 5 draft pick Vermilyea is currently pitching in relief.
