NEM stands for New England Mike. Living inPhoenix for past 18 years, originally from Stoughton, MA. NEM came to be by the fact that I am a regular caller to sports talk shows in Phoenix,and out here many people have lnames that represent the area they came from, hence New England Mike, and then one of the sports hosts called me NEM, and it has stuck ever since.

 

Ove the years I have been farily well recognized here in the Phoenix area... and people often ask me if I am the real "New England Mike, and have been asked for autographs.

 

Once in a supermarket I was getting milk out of the cooler and heard a voice from within, shout out....Hey NEM. And at the rgister, one of the lregister clerks yelled all the way across the store to another guy at a register, and pointing tome, yelloed out..."Hey, it's New England Mike."

 

Its no big dea lbut it is kind of cool.

 

In 1997 I organized, and founded, the New England Patriots Fan Club Of Arizona. Now, with over 400 Pats fans on our membership list we are thebiggest, and the forerunner, of many other Pats fan clubs that have started up natinwide.

 

Obviously a huge Sox fan too. And one who never thought I wouldsee a world series title in my lifetime. I am now 66 years old.

 

Iworked for the Pats briefly, as a spotter in the press box for then, PA announcer Vin Maloney, was the first secretary/Treasurer of the South Shore Quarterback Club and worked for two years in the Atlantic Coast Football League for the Boston Sweepers and Boston Steamrollers, as assistant tothe GeneralManager.

 

I worked with former Patriot player Butch Songin and Rommie Loudd during practice sessions, primarily helping place kicker Jay (Booth)who went on to the NFLwith the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins.

 

Many former,and future, NFLplayers played inthe ACFL.

 

In addition to being a Sox fan, I am one of the few left that can still remember the Boston Braves and seeing them play at BravesField.

 

Anyway, i have been long winded, so thats it for now.l Hello to all.

But seriously, welcome. It's cool that you've made your impression on your area, I don't know if I could stand trying to keep up with my teams from so far away.

But I have a question...who do you call in to? Because I haven't heard of you...(granted I haven't listened to local talk shows in awhile, because my car antenna is a POS) anyway, nice to have you.

And actually, I haven't heard of the NEPFCA either, probably because of two reasons:

 

1) I'm not a big football fan

2) ann when I do watch football I root for ATL only because Vick is fun to watch...so I guess you can call me a guy who likes to only watch exciting players fan...:dunno:

 

Just not into football like you obviously are, but thats cool.

EDIT: What's KDUS's station number, maybe I'll recognize them by that. :lol:

Well look at the bright side; at least dale "send em in" swain (sp?) isn't here this year. I don't think i could take a " i am a better 3rd base coach" thread every week!

Hey, NEM. I'm out here in Scottsdale. Read about your playoff and Superbowl parties in the paper so I'm signing up as a member to find out when they are in advance. Nothing like a few hundred Patriots fans drinking beer and watching the Pats kick some other teams butts.

 

By the way. I'll be back at Fenway in August.
