I read somewhere that the Red Sox were looking at Juan Gonzalez. I'm aware of his physical problems and his age but he can still hit lefty pitchers. He certainly wouldn't play a lot but if Dustan Mohr can't produce as a replacement for Trot Nixon maybe its worth giving Gonzo at least a workout?? Whats everyone think??

I'm also curious if he is a locker room problem? I've never heard it but maybe someone has an idea about the former MVPs attitude. I'm also curious if he is friends with Manny since they were on the Guardians?

Mine was to make a point. You're just being lazy.

Ahh fine. Okay, I don't want him because he's old, takes up a roster spot, and he'll probably get injured anyway. The guy had one at bat last year. Besides, he cant play the outfield anymore (let alone right field at Fenway), so he couldn't platoon with Trot.

And Kevin Millar was in the best shape of his career at this time last year too.

It's funny how every offseason players come back saying they are "in the best shape of their careers." Everyone is saying how much better Schilling looks this year (weight wise), but still looks pretty fat to me.

he definitely lost weight this year compared to last. if you look at pictures from last year and now its definitely noticeable that schilling lost a good amount of weight. he is still big but schilling has always been big but he just lost alot of the fat he had last year which he gained because he could not work out because he was in a cast all winter.

i don't know why? he can't play the field and the red sox will not carry a DH on the bench. he is basically useless for a franchise like the red sox. he should just retire.

Here is what I see...the outfield consists of:

Manny Ramirez, Coco Crisp, Trot Nixon, Dustan Mohr, Adam Stern, Willie Harris, David Murphy, Brandon Moss.

Both Brandon Moss and David Murphy need to work in Pawtucket for the time being. Adam Stern in my opinion is worthless. He can't hit, run that well, and isn't anything amazing on defense. Willie Harris has some speed but I'm not sure what else. Dustan Mohr sucked in COLORADO and never did much in his early career.

We don't really have a decent #4 outfielder. So what would be wrong with giving Juan a chance to make the team? If he shows he is in good shape and is hitting the ball well.....thats one hell of a platoon partner or pinch hitter. It may be wishful thinking but looking at the roster right now I say give him a shot.

I can understand people complaining about Juan Gonzo taking up a roster spot....but I'll complain if we have Adam Stern, Willie Harris, or Dustan Mohr taking up a spot when none of them are very good.

one other thing....if it turns out part way through the season he sucks....we should get Kapler back by that time

his injuries are one thing and he has not played in 100 games in the field since 2001 because his range has diminished. the red sox 4th outfielder should be able to play the field something that gonzalez has not been able to do. he is an injury prone player that is nothing more than a DH.

Seems like he's going to play RF/LF for the Puerto Rican team, lets see how he does ..... :)

he is playing for the puerto rican team because there is probably not that many outfielders on the team. i still would not sign him regardless of how he does. he has had his chances the last few years to stay healthy and he can't.

and with beltran, dejesus, and bernie ahead of him gonzalez will not see that much playing time. he just isn't that good of a player anymore and to have him on the red sox would mean we would have a DH as a bench player. i would pass.

the starting outfield should be beltran, rios and dejesus. then i would go with bernie. gonzalez isn't that good anymore to even warrant that much playing time for puerto rico.
