MLB contraction that will eliminate 2 teams?

Question: If MLB does contract 2 teams what happens to the players of those teams? Do they become FA's? Is there some sort of draft? Just curious.

I would think there would be a draft and the players wouldn't lose their contracts or anything. Seems like the fairest way to do it.

Draft. The order goes as standard, team with worst record gets first pick and so on. At least thats what I believe when I read an article a few years back when contraction was being discussed. And then they also said that there was proposal to increase the roster size from 25 to 27 because of all the extra players the teams would get.

I don't think your last proposal will happen especially with only 2 teams being contracted. It just means that more fringe MLBers will be out of jobs and playing in AAA where some of these guys who are playing for MLB teams belong.

That would be pretty sick if the D-Rays or the Marlins got contracted, and we got guys like Rocco Baldelli or even Hanley Ramirez back in a draft.

i would take delmon young or BJ upton or jorge cantu before either of those two....oh and don't forget carl crawford as well.

personally i like crawford in the number 2 hole better even though he has great speed. he does not have a high enough obp where he should hit leadoff.

julio lugo is....he has a higher obp. crawford is better in the 2 hole than at leadoff.

If those teams get contracted, none of those guys would slip as far back as the Sox pick. The Sox have the #27 pick in the June draft, which means they'd get the #25 in a contraction draft. All these names will likely be gone by the time they pick:

 

Marlins - Cabrera, Willis, Jacobs, Ramirez, Petit, Sanchez, Hermida, Olson

D-Rays - Kazmir, Lugo, Crawford, Huff, Baldelli, Gomes, Cantu, Gathright, Young, Upton

 

I think the Sox would be best served drafting their high ceiling lower minors guys.
