You understand people are different right? Not everyones skin reacts the same way. Please don't try to argue with me about this because there are tons of people here that will validate my comment.

Stop getting so defensive about it. I am just saying that if a blister stops him from pitching (and he has had shoulder problems too, right), then:

1) he is an outstanding pitcher, when he isn't injured (a blister is an injury)

2) Until he proves he doesn't get blisters in the arctic climate of boston (I hear it is really cold, especially in July and August), then I don't consider him outstanding.

Well after we've gone over the blister issue 238945682397465832974562893765 times on this board I tend to get a little bent out of shape.

Nolan Ryan had blister problems at the begining of his career too.

Okay, you convinced me. Josh Beckett is the next Nolan Ryan.

did I say that? Or did I simply give you another example of a player who pitched in hot tempeture and had blister problems?

I hope for the Red Sox and our sake that he does play well (outstanding), and has no injury problems. Let's talk in September. :D

Schill, if your post was directed at me you wasted your time because all you were dong was preaching to the choir. Of course, they had better get David signed up long term. What I certainly don't wan to hear is Lucchino, Werner or Henry tell us "we'll wait until the end of the season and deal with it." ******** on that!!!! That's how we have lost so many players in the past----Roger, Mo, Damon, etc. It is about time these front office pencil neck geeks learn from their past mistakes. Losing Ortiz would be a catasrophe; the owners would never recover their credibility if that happened.

I would love to see Ortiz extended, but we have an option for 2007 on him. Its not a terrible thing if we don't get anything done this year.

Hahah yeah. Well, my post was just put out there in general, not specifically aiming at you. But yes, I feel that exact same way.

No, if we get even close to not re-signing Ortiz, or far worse actually LOSE him, then the FO loses all credibility, Theo included. Also that would give all the other guys we hate or lost in FA who talked shmack about the Sox FO right to what they did. Lucchino and company would be boo'd out of town.

The beginning of his career was in New York (and then Anaheim). You mean to tell me that the heat on New York and the heat on Florida BOTH can cause blisters? If that's the case, then how come everybody is quick to say that Boston's heat won't do any harm to Beckett?

Well then I guess I'm wrong.

Guapo, I don't agree with that. It is amazing how February turns into August, then December pretty fast these days, and then all of sudden panic city sets in. The Yankees will there with a fat contract if we allow this to meander on, and if it comes to money as it always does, Ortiz will be in pinstripes. No sir, get that damn deal done as quickly as possible and get David signed up for the rest of his career. I say sign him now.

Hammer, you came through again. I will remember that next time I make one of my usual spelling screwups because I don't proofread by posts. Just the same, though, I want this Ortiz deal closed as soon as possible. I'll tell you this, if he is unsigned after this season he will NOT give us a team discount and we could lose him to the Yankees. I don't want a replay of the Johnny Damon fiasco.

I don't think we ahve to worry about Ortiz becoming a Pinstripe Putz anytime soon. It's obvious we should sign him, he loves it here, and we love him, he is probably the biggest bargain in baseball at his contract right now, so even if the FO screws up we should still get him back.

I've already been over what will happen if we don't sign him or come close to not signing him.

Ortiz still has a 2007 option on him. Which Im sure the Sox would pick up right or away/do an extension. I dont believe players can talk to interested teams if they still have options tagged onto them.

A little note of interest here, new #s for Sox newcomers

Crisp will wear the #12, recent owners have been Bellhorn & Walker

Mohr will wear the #18, we know who the recent owner was ;)...

River, your correct. Ortiz is signed for 2006 and the Sox have an option for 2007. Personally, I think David will have a new contract before the home opener.

Even though I want him to be here, it wouldnt be the playing time that he deserves. Which is a starting job. I just thought, why not the Florida Marlins? Pokey Reese & Alfredo Amezaga are the leading candidates to play 2nd.

Injections for Foulke

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

Here's the scoop on Keith Foulke as we know it. The reason he's been held back in spring training is because he's been undergoing two weeks of "injections" to his knees.

This was confirmed by both Sox GM Theo Epstein and Foulke's agent, Dan Horwitz. Neither would explain what was in the injections due to confidentiality issues, though Horwitz said they were not cortisone. Epstein said the injections were to promote healing of the knees. Foulke had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in July and on his right knee after last season.

"He'll be held back while this process is going on, but once it's over he should be fine," Epstein said.

Foulke threw off flat ground for about 10 minutes today and showed decent velocity. He was watched by a member of the Sox training staff the whole time. At the end of the session, Foulke was showing the trainer his push-off leg, and then went off into the trainer’s room while the rest of the pitchers and positional players worked out.

Boston Globe: The Red Sox announced today that they have agreed to terms on contracts with 16 players: Manny Delcarmen, Edgar Martinez, Cla Meredith, Jonathan Papelbon, David Pauley, Jermaine Van Buren, Jamie Vermilyea, Abe Alvarez, Lenny DiNardo, Jon Lester, Josh Bard, Alejandro Machado, Kevin Youkilis, Brandon Moss, David Murphy and Adam Stern. All 40 players on the Sox roster have now agreed to contracts for 2006.

So would it be 4 more seasons until Youk can become a free agent?

I'm a big fan of Tony G and everything he did for the Sox last year. I really wanted him to be here, but I guess if we have no spot for him I'd rather see him get a chance somewhere else.

Thanks for the 51 games.

Same here, total dirt dog mentality and really came through with some clutch plays.
