I think that a chat would be a great addition to the site. Fans could go in the chat during games or at any time. There is one on celticsblog.com and it attracts quite a crowd during gametime without about 30 people per game.

Well we do have the gamethreads which are very active when a game is going on. I know this has been suggested by a few members here but the decision is ultimately yeszirs. I for one wouldn't mind it. But I think a lot of people here have conversations via AIM but I don't want it to take away from board discussion.

Thats why its so hard to post in the game thread...people do play by play practically and before you know it you have a 12 page thread by the 7th inning.

I'm all for having a designated chatroom starter on AIM or something, and then inviting as many people as possible into it for live discussion. That way all the "MANNYYY!!!!111!!!" or "PAPIIIIII!!!!!111 ASJDKFABGHBB" outbursts wouldn't take up so much room in the threads, and it would be awesome to be able to live talk during the game.

I could start the chatrooms if need be, and then people can just be invited into it. If you can't start a thread for the night, ask someone else to cover for you. I tihnk it would work well.

Yeah, AIM rooms would be much better. Leave game threads for after game discussion. Not a bad idea.

Plus people can see how hilarious I am when I get excited over a sick play or something.

I like that idea as well. As I've said they do that on a Yankee board and there's just a permanent chat room that they could go in all the time. Like for instance we could designate Chat385238903098398039 as the "official talksox room" and people could go in there all the time and if they wrote down the number, they wouldn't have to be invited every time but this would take away from game thread discussion.

I think it was that game against Dallas when Stackhouse hit the gamewinner.

A lot of people have been requesting this. I may toy with a chat implementation within the forum at the beginning of the season and see how it goes.

I don't know if VBulletin supports it, but theres a feature called a shoutbox. It basically just sits at the top of the forum and acts as a chat.

EDIT: More info on this site http://www.shoutmix.com/

Is it moderated? I had something like that at my forum and there was a lot of illegal advertising.

I'm pretty sure you can delete any "shout", but I'm not 100% sure.

Shoutboxes, from what I've seen, get pretty messy and really look out of place on a forum. I'd rather pay the 10 bucks for flashchat, a popular chat program, and intergrate it with the site.

A shoutbox makes more sense ...

Is that based on your years of running a site. Yeszir has already stated his position. This is the second time you have not regarded or respected other members of the site. Read the prior posts and then make intelligent responses.

That's cool. Just a suggestion, as it was something I'd seen on a few other forums.

......and people racking up 1000 posts on useless crap. I actually stay away from the game threads and find them quite annoying.

Don't pay attention to post numbers.

Well, except Dana, who has the perfect size.
