Jurevicius Interests Pats

The Patriots are apparently interested in talking to Seahawks receiver Joe Jurevicius, who like NFL MVP Shaun Alexander and Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson, are now free agents. Jurevicius signed a one-year deal with Seattle before the season and became a critical cog after injuries to starting receivers Darrell Jackson and Bobby Engram earlier this season. Jurevicius, who played in his third Super Bowl with three different teams [Giants, Bucs and Seahawks] in just his eighth year, had 10 touchdown catches this season.

I agree, Jurevicous would be a great fit in NE.

EDIT: For the record, I'm an Eagles fan and would love to see them make a run at him too...

Well you guys could use any decent receiver after this year.

He would make a great fit to the team and with Tom Brady. Also added insurance to add a veteran wide receiver with playoff history considering Troy Brown could be nearing retirement and high possibility that Givens could leave for another team.

Yeah we definitely need another receiver, I'm pretty confident that Givens will leave and go for the big paycheck since he's already got the rings.

(shudder)

At least we're probably getting Santonio Holmes from the draft and Reggie Brown will continue to impress. Don't even get me started on Lewis and Pinkston.

EDIT: sorry, impress should be "progress."

should have had Jurevicius in 2002 but instead the pats signed donald hayes instead. it was one or the other and unfortunately the pats signed a rare bust.

pats could also be interested in antwaan randel-el

i really want us to re-sign givens, but he might demand too much money

jurivicius would be a nice add if we lose givens

but we still need a number three, slot wr

troy brown is close to being done

greg jennings in the third round out of western mich would be a nice pick

or, randel-el could fill that number three hole, although hell prob demand number two money

when you rely on the pass as much as we do, you need a better number three wr than brown/davis

what does everyone think it will take to resign givens....i was hoping maybe a 5 yr 15-16 million dollar deal with maybe a 3-3.5 million signing bonus.

I would think something around there would probably get it done.

I'd love to see Jurevicious come to NE. I loved him on the Bucs and he did really well for Seattle this year so I think he would definitly be a good fit in NE.

Pats re-sign Davis

The Patriots ensured one of their core special teams players will remain with the team, signing linebacker/safety Don Davis to a one-year contract extension worth $770,000. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Davis led the Patriots with 25 special teams tackles in 2005. “As far as coming back for another year, it’s awesome; I’m ecstatic and my family is ecstatic,” Davis said on Tuesday afternoon. “This past season, I learned a lot and think I played better, more focused.”

The 2005 season was Davis’s 10th in the NFL. The 33-year-old, who is one of the team's spiritual leaders, said he entered the year thinking it would be his last. “Ten years is a good career and I figured that would be it, but the fire is still there,” he said. “When I started playing, the idea was to get vested [with the NFL players union]. It was a struggle to get there, but once it happened, I was thinking ‘maybe I can get two more.’ And the years just kept adding. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be playing in year 11.”

Davis felt his play had tapered off a bit after the 2004 season, perhaps as a result of him learning to play safety. “I was so focused on that, that it might have taken away from who I am, what helped me get established –- special teams play,” he said. “This past year, I tried to focus more on techniques [on special teams]. It was just kind of realizing and knowing what you are.” Davis still worked at safety at times, and warmed up with the team’s defensive backs before most games. But since it was his second season playing the position, his comfort level was greater.

In an interesting twist, Davis negotiated his contract extension without the aid of an agent. “Being an older player and knowing my role with the team, it was pretty straightforward,” he said. Davis was one of 17 Patriots players scheduled for unrestricted free agency, a group that includes kicker Adam Vinatieri, receiver David Givens, offensive lineman Tom Ashworth, safety Artrell Hawkins and offensive lineman Stephen Neal.

This guy might not be talked about that much or be big on stats, but he is as solid as a guy youd like to have on the special teams unit and in the clubhouse. Overall good re-signing.

Boston Herald: Flutie, Pats may huddle up again

By Lenny Megliola and Herald wire services

Thursday, February 9, 2006 - Updated: 06:11 AM EST

Doug Flutie hasn’t had any dialogue with the Patriots yet regarding a return to the team, although one team official said he felt it was likely the 43-year-old quarterback will be asked back. Flutie backed up Tom Brady this season, with Matt Cassel the third quarterback. Flutie’s contract for $750,000 would count for $425,000 against the salary cap. “If the opportunity is there, I think he’ll be back,” Flutie’s agent, Kristen Kuliga, said.

If Flutie doesn’t re-sign with the Patriots, he will retire and prepare for a broadcasting career. The Patriots will also be looking at potential free agent signings next month.

I can't imagine Rodney Harrison being anywhere near the same player he was before the injury. Torn ligaments (ACL, MCL, and PCL, in his case) are tough to come back from -- especially when you're 33 years old. I'd love to see him come back, he's a great player and one I've always loved to watch, no matter what the team.

Ravens running back Jamal Lewis, who has been informed he won’t be hit with the franchise tag -- thus making him a free agent -- told the Baltimore Sun in Thursday editions that the Patriots are one of four teams he’s interested in joining for a fresh start.

The Cardinals, Packers and Steelers are the other teams. The Patriots have Corey Dillon, Kevin Faulk, Patrick Pass and Earl Charles under contract at running back for 2006.

Your odds are even better ... that is if you want a criminal ... and a guy who's done.

The Steelers are going to keep Staley, and we have Fast Willie. We'd have no use for Jamal Lewis, and we wouldn't have the money to pay him if we did.

belichick can rehabilitate players image. look what he did with dillon. plus if we can get him on the cheap i will take jamal lewis

Corey Dillon never got arrested for making a million dollar coke deal.

Posted
yeah, he didnt exactly rehabilitate Dillon's image, just put him in a better situation.

Corey Dillon had an image problem because he bitched CONSTANTLY about being on a bad team. When he became a Patriot of course he didn't cause problems, because he was on a winning team.

Jets Make Roster Moves

The New York Jets announced today that the following players have been placed on waivers: tackle Jason Fabini, quarterback Jay Fiedler, linebacker Barry Gardner, defensive tackle Lance Legree, fullback Jerald Sowell and wide receiver Harry Williams, Jr. Additionally, the Jets and CB Ty Law mutually agreed today not to exercise the contract options for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons. The announcements were made by New York Jets’ General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

I got this from the Jets website. I've heard talk that the Pats among a few other teams are intersested in Law.

that has been in the works for weeks and if ty law is serious about wanting 10 million in bonus money then he can forget about coming back to new england.

Screw lewis! Go sign james or alexander.

and just how do they fit into the patriots cap. both of them will want big bonus money up front something the patriots just do not do. they need to take care of seymour before they sign james or alexander. don't expect either james or alexander on the pats because belichick will not spend big money on them. he will find a RB on the cheap.
