How's it going gang?

It's almost time for us to get in line for Baseball's equivalent of a Thrill Ride, The 06 Boston Red Sox Season, and it can't come soon enough for me. Anyway, What's the story with Manny?

With Theo coming back and The Coco deal dominating the news it seems that Manny has kind of fallen off the radar screen, Plus..I've been without a computer since December and just got back online last week. I was Red Sox-News-Poor for almost 2 months and my wife wouldn't let me watch ESPNnews 24/7(Although I did try)

So, Has he made peace with The Sox?(For Now) or is a trade Inevitable?

I sure do like the Coco deal...............Johnny Who?

For those of you who care? at Disney's Animal Kingdom they just opened it's new $100 Million roller coaster called Expedition Everest, as big an fast as The Hulk at Universal. So, If your coming to this part of Florida (Orlando/Kissimmee) this spring and are going to Disney make it a point to ride "The Double E" It's a snot bubbler.

The last I heard was that Manny was aware they tried to fulfill his request w/ no success but not much since then. I guess he'll play in the WBC and the join the rest of the team in ST....hope he stays and stays happy....

I haven't heard any manny trade rumors. The one thing this team is missing right now is an ace pitcher with no question marks around him, thats something thats nearly impossible to get your hands on, but don't look for manny to be moved unless we get one.

Not many Ace pitchers w/o ? marks around their name. even pedro needs a special shoe for his toe. schilling may come back in great shape with an arm that basically had a year off last year. On paper, our staff looks pretty good.....

They said something about Manny going to the Mets for Floyd & Milledge on WEEI today ...

I heard that as well. I hope that doesn't happen Cliff Floyd and Milldredgedon't impress me enough i'm still a Tejada believer .

cliff floyd has a no-trade clause to boston. plus i don't think the red sox will make that deal. it is a very considerable downgrade. floyd can never stay healthy for a whole season. he is going to stay with the sox as they can't get equal value for him.

trading manny would absolutely ruin this team that is 6 weeks from spring training. unless the red sox were blown over by an offer they are not moving manny.

Me too VA...I would hate to see Manny go.

Hope you have a good time there, take some pics.

Thanks for the responses folks.

I would sure as hell hate to see him go also. The combo of him and

Big Papi is the best in the business.

Anyone think Clemens will sign on with us again? The guys on ESPN

seem to think it's within the realm of possibility. Maybe Theo can make

up for the blunder of Dirty Dan The Duke of Dalton.

Anyway....It was just a thought.

Yeah, manny and papi are as good as it gets.

I doubt that Clemens will be anywhere near boston next year; however, I can still see why ESPN analysts would be enamored with the idea, hype and even the potential reality of the idea. The sox could offer almost as much money as anyone, and it would be a great story. I just don't see Roger trying to do that though.

i don't think that will happen....i would love him back here but he is not coming back. he is focusing on the WBC before he even decides if he wants to come back this yr. if he comes back its either with the astros on may 1st or i think he will sign with the rangers. clemens to the red sox is a pipe dream.

i do not think $ is a factor for him anymore. he has enough of it. he went to houston for a reason to be closer to his family. he is comfortable in houston. i don't see him being away from his family for an extended period of time at his age when he has nothing left to prove. if he wants to pitch this coming year he will do it close to home where he can see his family more than he can if he was in boston or new york.

Houston gave him top dollar to play near his family. He was the highest paid pitcher in history last year. Not a bad home town discount to be near his family. Roger realizes that his big earning days are coming to a close. He'll go where the $ is. What will he miss of his family. The kids finish school in May and they are not babies anymore. He'll play for whatever team gives him $18 million.

highest paid pitcher because he went to arbitration i believe. he played for 5 million in 2004. i dont want the red sox giving clemens 18 million dollars because frankly its a waste of money when that money can go to signing high impact talent in the draft that falls or international free agents. clemens is not worth 18 million anymore. if he wants to play for the sox at 5 million like he did in 2004 then fine but anything more and i hope the sox do not pursue it.

I wouldn't give Roger Clemens five lbs of monkey s*** to play for Boston.

He sucks

He blows

He takes it in the face

he is a good pitcher still but not worth anything near the 18 million he was paid last yr. the red sox would be wise investing that money in the farm system.

they settled before arbitration for 500k more than Pedro made in 2004 to make him the highest paid pitcher in history. He really didn't play for 5 million in '04. I believe that his Yankee contract gave him a $5million advance in '03 for '04. He has always been a bottom line guy. Don't kid yourself. He didn't go to the Yankees to win the ring. He went there, because he broke a n $8 million/year contract with Toronto for $15 million/year with the Yankees. If the Sox come up with $15-18 million, it would be worth it for one year. It's not a long term commitment and the year long farewell tour would be very profitable for both sides.

15-18 million is a waste of money for 1 season. the redsox should not spend that type of money on clemens. i would put that money to what will help the sox in the future and that is the farm system. clemens will not even be around then. i would love clemens back but not for that type of money.

well last i heard as of early this afternoon, the local radio station XTRA mentioned that there had been a potential deal with the angels on the backburner, but when push came shove, boston was asking for santana, figgins, and 4 top angel prospects. obviously stoneman balked at paying that price... but as time goes by, they're gonna have to answer tough questions as to why they have refused to aquire another power hitter going back to the last trading deadline when they faded offensively heading into the playoffs.

Someone is going to give him the $, because he's worth it for the one year. You keep saying to put it into the farm system, but where? If they have $15-18 million extra, they either spend it or pay it out in profits. They can't carry it over to the following year or they will get hit with accumulated earnings taxes etc. It's not like there are $18 million in prospects waiting to be picked up. So, you spend it on Clemens, other capital improvements or pay it out in profits. That's the way it works.
Posted

you spend it in the international free agent market or you spend it signing high impact guys in the draft that fall because they say they are going to college. there are many ways to invest it in the farm system. i can guarantee you that the red sox will never pony that type of money up for 1 season of roger clemens. theo would put that money into the farm system before he ever spends that type of money on clemens.

this love fest with clemens is a pipe dream. he is not coming back here. the red sox will never give him that type of money. if he wants to come back here at under 10 million maybe the sox would consider it but they would be out of their mind to pay him between 15-18 million for 1 season.

Nothing left to prove? People have said all the time that this guy chokes in the big games. Big games prove that your a GREAT picture. Not a very good one. If Roger comes back and wins a WS with the Red Sox then people can put away his case as a "good one but not a great one." He can even start hearing talks as being one of the best pitchers EVER. To say he has nothing to prove is something to laugh at. Sure he has all these great career records but there will always be the fact that he chokes with the pressure on, but he can end it with winning a WS as a Red Sox.
