Without Damon do you think you guys win a World Series?

No, I don't, but I think it has to end at some point and we'll both say our good-bye's and that will be the end of it, I just think some people just won't let it go, and I think they will fall in love with Coco if this trade goes through.

i think everyone will fall in love with Coco in Boston.

but seriously though, before the Sox won the world series everyone predicted that when they finally did the fans would cherish it and love all of the players and all of that stuff, but it hasnt been quite like that

We didnt expect our beloved players to go to our most hated enemies. Imagine after 2000 (if you can remember that far back) is Jeter signed with the sox.

if we had told damon take it or leave it then we could have made a deal to get reed a long time ago when they were talking about arroyo going for him along with someone else. the red sox dragged their feet when they could have had reed back awhile ago.
That is total conjecture and opinion.

Exactly, IMO if Damon were to to sign with say the Orioles, he wouldve gotten this big standing ovation at Fenway Park. No offense but when much loved players of ours go to Babe Ruth's house and switch sides, its a stab in the back to us. You guys just dont realize how it actually feels because no loved Yankee players have switched sides anytime recently.

They offered him $11 mil a year. They could have matched the Yankees offer and made enough in revenue and income this year to pay his entire salary. Its not like theyre a small market team short on money. If it wasnt for his contributions they might not be as profitable. He helped them, so they should at least try to show more interest than they did.

that is true.. if damon returned the damon disciples or bandwagoners would have grown beyond my imagination. he was a chick magnet.. college girls thought it was the cool thing to like damon.. now he's a yankee and they are all off the boat.

the red sox thought logically.. 52 over 4 is too much for damon.

I think with JD... the fact that he went to the yankees is what has most ppl upset.

It's also hard to let go of any player who was there in 2004. They were the team that broke the curse, made history and they were our team. After 86 years they won the WS in our lifetime. How many ppl waited that are gone and never saw that happen. If JD had gone to any other team he most likely would have been missed... but sent off with best wishes.

Jeter would do that. The most recent thing that I can think of is Coney going to the Sox...which hurt. Even Boomer going to the Sox hurt. But before that the biggest name that almost went to the Sox was Bernie in '99, but George didnt let that happen by swooping in at the last minute and beating the Boston offer out.

(Was that kind of shot at me yeszir? if I can remember back that far?)

because no loved Yankee players have switched sides anytime recently.

Boomer

Coney

your statement is absolutely, 100% true if you are a fan of say, the Houston astros or something. But this is the freakin Boston Red Sox. Not exactly short on money. All the revenue Johnny provided I think they could have given him some more.

bottom line: Damons a yankee.

they dragged their feet and should have signed him earlier..they didn't...they offered him what they felt he was worth and had they been given the opportunity to counter offer cashmans offer, maybe something would have been different....cashman put him on the spot and said here you go johnny...4 years 52 million..take it or leave it...he took it...just like anybody would...so be it...thanks for the memories johnny! even with the additional money, your gonna regret leaving boston...

ya never know what you had until it's gone.

hello Coco!!

will coco see manny go?? I dunno??

Ham, I agree. Damon wanted Boston, he wanted to be a sox, so be it. The problem is, once Furcal signed, then the market changed and Damons value jumped. The yankees paid market value, the sox refused to make a market correction. They ended up landing coc in the end, but if they signed damon, they would still have Marte, Shoppach, Mota, a PTBNL, and possibly delcarmen. The deal they ended up making with cleveland filled some holes, but the future holes that the trade they made with cleveland will become evident if Lowell shows that last yr was a correct eval of his current level fo play. Bottom line, the loss of damon gets them a mini-version of Damon at the loss of some key players. Just remember, adding coco is not a gain, it is still a slight dropoff from the production you were given in that spot from last yr. Looking at it as a whole, the sox dropped off at 3b, at SS (believe it or not), at 1b possibly, and in cf. BUT, if the guys play up to potential, then they can equal that production....

Myself I was expecting Shoppach to be traded, as a number of other posters on here and media commentators have talked about throughout this offseason. I just wouldve rather had him paired to a team that actually needs a starting catcher since Vic Martinez will be locked down for quite awhile. The kid is major league ready and would be blocked by Varitek who's signed through the next 3 seasons, giving Shopp the every 5th day treatment would hold down his power potential.

I may have mentioned this before, but last season the Sox selected in their first round a 6'-2" 220 lb power hitting catcher named Jonathan Egan. I also have the scouting report if youd like to peruse it. He will be starting in single A Lowell this April. I'll be following his minor league career as he is now the favorite Sox farmhand to someday take over starting catching duties from the Captain.

At 1st base, the tandem of Youk & Snow easily beats out Millar offensively & of course defensively. Gonzo is just a 1 year deal, gold glove caliber with potential 20 HRs especially in Fenway Park. This deal has been done to bridge the gap for promising prospect Dustin Pedroia.

The Sox dropped off at 3rd? Mueller's my boy but Lowell just won the gold glove, his 2nd. And with Fenway's dimensions and Mr. green monster, he'll hit his fair share of doubles & Hrs. An offensive upgrade he is over Billy.

damons wife was too big for the boston market

she fueded with schills wife over a fkn charity event

they were on the page 6 tabloids more than nick jess brad and angelie

i loved him

he broke his balls for us and did what we paid him 25+ million to do along with the rest of the cast

would we have won in 04 without him??

i dont know

would we have won without mueller pedro lowe foulke timlin the world series mvp in manny, ortiz etc??

its a team game with defense and pitching being a winning formula

evidently they havent figured that out in the bronx

as far as johnny goes

he gets the 5 minute standing O which he undoubtedly deserves

then i hope schilling sticks 1 in his fkn ear

its cool that you still have that love for johnny, but I dont want you to get disappointed. Im gonna be at his first game, it will probably be hard to hear any clapping at all. The main concenus is that it will be one of the biggest booing events in recent history at Fenway Park. I might even boo to just vent out the aggression and shock I still have. Seeing him in person in pinstripes and buddying up with Arod will only fire up the Fenway faithful even more.

I totally agree with everything you just said crunchmeistah! not so much about schill throwing at em but making him look bad on a sharp breaking ball swinging strike three will be sweet.......how cool will it be when the spankmes are in town and coco gets a hit or gets on and steals 2nd base....or runs down a definate hit and makes a great catch..I'm telling ya, damon can not appreciate what he had until he's over in the other duggout...

the mfnyfy's are never gonna embrace him like we did...

Small nitpick. Lowell is a short season A ball team, and their season doesn't start until June, after the draft.

Egan will start the season in Greenville which is Low A ball instead of Lowell which is short season A ball. College players just drafted tend to go straight to lowell.

Given the Yankees massive market, and even more revenue streams, the Yankees can afford to put him in left field or DH, when he no longer can play CF. The Red Sox probably could still manuever around Damon's massive salary, but they would suffer in the field.

Here is his scouting reprt as it indicates he wiull open the season in lowell with the spinners in June after he is in spring training

Posted

thats an estimate......if he does good in spring training he won't sit around in extended spring training until june. that would only hinder his development. i still believe he will be in greenville like he should be.

i can see why he could be in extended spring training as he sucked last year in the GCL league but i think he needs to play as much as possible.

"Damon praised his former Red Sox teammate Manny Ramirez for his exceptional ability and for urging the Red Sox to sign David Ortiz. He also stumped for Ramirez to defect to the Bronx.

"'Manny really wants out of Boston, just so he can relax and chill,' Damon told Kay. 'If he played for the Mets, he probably wouldn't be able to chill much. But I think the Yankees would be a perfect fit for him, as well as for David Ortiz.'"

Damon, I know where you can put that quote of yours.

Optimism is okay. Seriously, the sox lineup will not be bad, it should be one of the best in the league, but I highly doubt that it will be as good as it has been. It will probably drop into the 3-5 range in the AL instead of the #1 spot. BUT, the sox lived and died off their offense last yr as the pen and rotation for the most part were horrible. The pen MAY become a major disaster as both seanez and tavares are cross your fingers kinda guys and foulke is still the closer. Basically, if Schilling and Foulke return to 2004 form, then you shouldnt need the offense of 2003-2005. But if they dont, then the offensive holes will be ever the more glaring....

Good to see the crack addict is back.

The Red Sox scored 30 more runs than the yankees last year. They upgraded at first, filled with similar talent at 3rd (more power less averge) and will get SLIGHTLY less run production from their CF.

The yankees meanwhile, upgraded at CF, and lost merely by aging. They get older every year, and their averages and production show it as evidenced by my post in the other thread. Those players averaged a drop of over 45 POINTS in their batting averages over the past 2 years. I'm sure it was the wind, the water, or whatever f***ing excuse you come up with this time, but it aint. it is OLD AGE.

The pen MAY become a major disaster as both seanez and tavares are cross your fingers kinda guys and foulke is still the closer.

The Red Sox bullpen has added not only tavarez and Riske but

Delcarmen

Meredith

Papelbon

Hansen

and has others such as Lester waiting in the wings. Again, YOUTH and talent.

IMO, the red sox bullpen will fare better than the yankee bullpen this year.

But if they dont, then the offensive holes will be ever the more glaring....

I refer to my first statement, and would like to add that you are spending entirely too much time operating, studying and posting and need to start f***ing your wife, as it will help you make more rational comments and think clearer.

Have a good day my friend.

Bottom line crunch. I think you're right. She wants her career and she would never make

it in the Boston market.

She's dislikied by many in Boston it doesn't offer what NY does

for HER... as far as what she wants.

I think she's a big factor in his decision. I call her the tupperware women.

I like JD a lot but he's gone..time to forget and move on.

Sooo Johnny has taken out a full page in today's Boston Globe thanking the Red Sox fans. It has a faded pitcure of him in a Red Sox uniform with a letter over it that reads

February 8, 2006

Many thanks to the great fans of New England and the City of Boston. It was a privelege and an honor.

Johnny Damon

Ok maybe its just because im a die hard sox fan, but that was it?? A note? Drew Bledsoe's heartfelt thankyou letter to the fans was longer and put even more thought into this. Sorry until I hear otherwise, its to save face considering his recent comments and salvage any type of standing ovation he think he will get here.
