According to the Indianapolis Star they are discussing the Colts keeping Reggie Wayne and moving on from Edgerrin James. I love the Colts.....such a stupid move. Edgerrin James is an excellent running back in the running, passing, and protection game. He is 28 years old and since his major injury has posted more than 2000+ all purpose yards each year. Not to mention his 17 and 18 TDs in each season.

....the Patriots should be ALL over that

I don't think the Pats will be all over it as much as I would like them to be. If we get Edge, we can trade Dillon for that amazing WR we want. I'm not that surprised to see them keep Wayne though, the Colts win more with Peyton's arm than Edge's legs. With that O-line, Dominic Rhodes could be pretty successful.

I believe that they are both free agents. If the Pats did anything it would be to look at Reggie Wayne and compare his cost to our free agent. James is not in the picture, due to our current contractual obligations.

with dillon already on the roster and costing more to release him than keeping him i don't think the pats will go edge's way. thats not the belichick way. he won't pay big money to edge or any other big name free agent.

Our passing game is excellent and always will be as long as we have Tom Brady. Clearly our issues were running the ball. Corey Dillon is getting up there and goes down on first contact now. That is a good sign he has seen his best days. I wasn't impressed with him in the playoffs at all...he did little to contribute.

The Colts won so many games this season on the legs of Edgerrin James...they changed there game plan to a run first..pass second offense. James got the ball in his hands early and often to slow the game down and let the defense stay fresh. Once they got to the playoffs that changed (I have no idea why). When the Colts had there first long drive of the game it was on the legs of Edgerrin James. The guy is a player and I think the Colts would be stupid to let him go. Reggie Wayne is good because of the attention Marvin Harrison recieves.

Another option might be to look at Jamal Lewis. He is a risk but would cost less and I'm suprised how young he still is. Apparenly the Ravens also sent out feelers for Ray Lewis. I was a bit shocked at that.

Yes, this is why I would love to have Edge. We could send away Dillon for some serious talent in return. But, to be fair to Dillon, those 2 postseason games were against some of the best D-lines in the league. Denver's obviously, and Jacksonville has Stroud and Henderson right up the middle. 2 6'6"+ 320lb+ men. But you're right. I would still love to see Edge in New England.

And are you serious about the Ravens looking for offers for Ray?

Anyway, that's why I would like Edge. We get a great RB, and trade away Dillon for potentially a pro-bowl WR. Imagine Deion Branch as a #2 receiver.

Dillon is coming off a bad year, in both years of injuries and production ( granted both are related ) and in a trade the aquiring team will have to honor his contract.

I understand that, but that's what I want.

I said I don't think the Pats will take a big look at Edge for that reason you just said in my first post of the thread. No one would bite.

Belichick is the GM of the pats. he is in charge of signing the players with approval from kraft. i dont think belichick is gonna spend big money on a running back like james.
Posted
ya but kraft doesn't go out and get the players. thats what belichick does. belichick does not have a history of handing out big money to free agents and i expect that trend to continue this year. edge to new england is like a million to 1 shot

id like to see them go after edge too.

would the cardinals give up fitzgerald or boldin for dillon??

maybe dillon for jerry porter??

Posted
Meh, I don't think Jerry Porter would be a good replacement for Dillon. I'd rather have Dillon and our current WR core. However, Arizona...I never thought of that. Good idea dude. A young talented WR like Boldin would fit well, especially with Brady, who could make him an even better WR. I think we would end up with Boldin, as Fitzgerald is a younger talent. Not to mention Arizona is in desperate need of a RB.

Dillon's 31, and still has quite a few years left in the tank, at least he can. A team like the Cardinals who will never compete with the Pats in the near future, but needs to focus more on building themselves up, will trade with the Pats if they get the right stuff. Granted, this most likely won't happen, but it's a possibility.
Posted
everything is a possibility but the cardinals will likely not trade fitzgerald or bolquin for dillon. absolutely makes no sense when the cardinals can get a running back in the draft if they want.
Posted

Well, I've said it before in other threads but I guess I'll say it again...

This is all based off of what could potentially happen. The Cardinals don't need a runningback in the draft, it's not their highest necessity. They need o-line help, and defensive help. Quick.

If they wanna go with Marcel Shipp for another year...be my guest.

Posted

Yea you guys talking about trading Corey Dillon...thats tough to make happen. Trades are difficult to make in the NFL as it is let alone an old running back. My thinking was Dillon can still be of value to the Patriots. Create more of a two headed monster like Stephan Davis-Deshawn Foster, Jerome Bettis-Willie Parker, Tatum Bell-Mike Anderson.

However, since the Ravens are sending out signs for possible trades involving Ray Lewis...and they aren't too interested in bringing back Jamal Lewis...hmmmm.

We could probably use more help in the secondary though.

Posted

Ohhhhh, okay haha.

Well, I don't tihnk our secondary needs that much help. Ty Law coming back to the Pats is a high possibility because the Jets are dumping salary and he wasn't that great for them. Rodney will be back next year, and Samuel will only get better. Eugene Wilson gets better every year. As a whole, our secondary is solid with future and current pro bowlers. Not to mention Tyrone Poole is still there (even though he's a bit old), but Hobbs did a great job filling in and will be a solid backup to have before he starts somewhere in the near future. Randall Gay isn't great, but he could be a solid nickelback or dimeback.

Posted
The Pats D will be good next year if Rodney Harrison comes back, they can get a shutdown corner, and get another couple safeties in case harrison can't come back. plus i think another young linebacker would help as well.
Posted
Please, Rodney Harrison is one tough son of a bitch. He'll be back. The Jets are dumping salary, and rumor has it that he would like to come back to New England. A secondary of Eugene Wilson, Rodney Harrison, Ty Law, and Asante Samuel is amazing. Not to mention Tyrone Poole on the bench, and Randall Gay as a nickel back or a dime back. The linebacking core has 1 more year in it together...Bruschi has a few more years, but big Willie is near the end...he's starting to get old.
Posted
poole will be released and so will starks....i think belichick has had enough of poole be a pussy. they need to draft some young DBacks because they are getting old back there especially at safety.
Posted

Eugene Wilson? He's 25 now, he'll be 26 next season...that's not old.

We also have Hobbs in training. He's young enough that we can teach him all the positions in the secondary. Not to mention he's pretty damn good. As a whole, the secondary has a few more years in it, and we can address that in future drafts in 1 or 2 years. As of now, we need to focus on Dillon's successor, and draft another good young DT/DE and a young LB for Big Willie. The secondary can wait one or two more years.
