My only hope is that he brings a new type of nonconservative play to the table, as well as take away the safe mode....make us make penalties....as long as it'll get in the other teams head!!

While I wish he stayed, I'm shocked the Jets wanted him this badly. I know hes a good coach and we've heard lots of good things about him, but when was the last time a coach this young with only one year of defensive coordinator experience got a head coaching job.

His lack of experience and being alittle young i think he should have passed on this job. Its not like NFL jobs do not open every year. the Jets job is a very tough job. a big market team with a demanding fan as well as a team that looks like they are going downhill pretty quickly with salary cap problems. Mangini could have stayed and found a job that was better than the Jets job. I wouldn't be shocked to see him fail in his first gig like belichick did with the browns.

While I agree this is a very tough job from him its easy to see from his end. This year was the first time hes made decent money coaching. And now his pay is gonna at least triple again. If he fails as a head coach, the worst thing that could happen is he gets another defensive coordinator position, probably paying more than hes making now.

He will be making more money but is it worth the risk with the Jets not in a good situation personel wise. They have a ton of question marks especially at QB and RB. they have the fourth pick in the draft which does not favor them at all because Bush, Leinart and Young will all go in the top 3. All I'm saying is that Mangini did not need to rush into this because their will be jobs opening up all the time and better jobs than the one in New York.

I agree with everything you say. I just think its a lot of money to turn down. Especially for a man with a family which i believe he has. Also, there is the whole ego thing that most coaches have. You have to think Mangini is going into this thinking he can make a huge difference.

Was Herm Edwards even a coordinator before he took over with the Jets? I could swear he was a DB's coach in Tampa when they hired him.

Prior to joining the Jets, Edwards spent five seasons serving as assistant head coach/defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, working under current Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy.

Does anyone think the Jets reached for Mangini. Its not like he had a good year as the Defensive Coordinator. The pats finished 26th in defense in the NFL. I think its a reach and that he was not ready at his age to be a head coach.

In fairness, the defense was riddled with injuries most of the year.

The Jets strength is their defense, and Mangini should take advantage of that. Sucks that the Coordinators are out, though. Henderson and Westhoff were very good at their jobs, and Heimerdinger really didn't get much of a fair shot.

Mike Tice was a Tight Ends coach for one year, and the Offensive Line coach for five(?) others with the Vikings before taking over as Head Coach. He only added the assistant coach title for the year preceeding him becoming Head Coach.

I agree with this...

Getting a new HC doesn't set up really anything more than we coulda worked with with edwards. I hope Mangini doesn't play conservative, but now I like our set-up:..if Henderson stays, we have a good D-Cordinator. Hermindinger did good, IMO with nothing to work with, and Westhoff...I think...is a very underrated Special teams coach. Once our young guns start holding on, we have a great and fearful return team I haven't seen since Santana in 2002.

I now have a reason to be happy about football again.

Chad....Time will tell I guess..he'll have had 10 Months?..We'll see
