Milwaukee convinced Toronto to pay all but $4 million of the $11.1 remaining on Corey Koskie's contract, giving the Brewers a veteran third baseman for $2 million a year. The downside to that trade was it displaced Bill Hall, a terrific infielder. There's talk in Milwaukee that he or Rickie Weeks might be headed for center field, though GM Doug Melvin's phone must be ringing off the hook about Hall, who would be an excellent addition for Boston, among others

LAST YEARS STATS--

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
146 501 69 146 39 6 17 62 248 39 103 18 6 .342 .495 .291

young kid (26) with some talent, a better upgrade over cora offensively. Defensively he had a .976 fielding percentage at SS last year in 66 games. He still might need some work but id rather him than cora.

One thing i dont like is his 103 K'S TO 39 BB ratio.

maybe a deal with clement or arroyo staright up could work

No actual mention of plans to send him to beantown though, huh? That's too bad. Hall at SS, Reed in CF, plus Marte, Pedroia, Lester, Paps, etc. would be a great core moving forward.

Could he hit leadoff?

Yes, he probably could if we needed him to, given his decent OBP, .291 avg., and 18 stolen bases. However, I would prefer Youkilis to hit leadoff because he would do the best job of setting the table for Manny, Papi, and Tek.

Bill Hall's 2005: .291/.342/.495

Johnny Damon's 2005: .316/.366/.439

Johnny Damon in 2005 away from Fenway Park: .298 .342 .438

Bill Hall was also MUCH MUCH better at home so predicting a steep incline in his numbers is probably not appropriate (he was .271/.337/.413 on the road)

Obviously though playing his home games at Fenway you'd expect Hall could match his 2005 overall season numbers and at 26 he's a player on the rise.

I would be thrilled if the Sox could get Bill Hall. He's 26, he's a 20/20 threat right now, he's cheap, he's versatile (can play third, short, and second). To me, it's a great depth guy as insurance for Lorreta or Lowell (in case of injury) and he could if nobody else was acquired start at shortstop and be a pretty darn good player.

Back in the days when Lyle Overbay was a candidate to join the Red Sox, there was talk about Matt Clement. If we could get Bill Hall and an arm (Jose Capellan perhaps) for Matt Clement and cash I'd say jump all over it.

Hall and De la Rosa or Capellan for Clement and Graffanino sounds like a good deal for both sides. The brewers getting there SP they need with the sox filling a hole at SS.

No, that's a terrible deal for the Brewers. If the Brewers are giving up Hall, then they'd probably want Lester or Papelbon. What makes you think the Brewers would trade a young 3B, who probably could pop 25 HR's someday, AND a flamethrowing prospect for an overpaid pitcher, and a guy who's a utility player at best?
