i dont like it either. Manny and Tejada are allstars every year. Prior is a talented, injury prone pitcher who has yet to prove much. Id want Ronny Cedeno or Felix Pie also in return

I prefer Zambrano and Patterson over Prior and Patterson. Zambrano and former sox prospect Matt Murton could make me happy.

whos this ronny cedeno kid

i hated giving up matt murton in that trade

obviously wed rather get zambrano, but theyd rather give up prior

i dont really like this

patterson is crap

I'm going against all of you on this topic....

We cannot out hit the NY Yankees....but we could out pitch them. Having Mark Prior and Josh Beckett at this point of there careers would be amazing. In the end our rotation would include Mark Prior, Josh Beckett, Jonathan Papelbon, and Jon Lester. Thats a great young, talented, all ace caliber rotation. If these guys could stay healthy we would have the best rotation in the league. We wouldn't be able to replace Manny's production but we weren't going to anyways. I think adding better pitching and better defensive players is the way to go.

I'd rather have a lower team ERA than a higher BA

if anyone had read the whole article youd see ken rosenthal pointed out the red sox wouldnt just be getting prior

The package the Sox would receive is unclear, but conceivably could include Prior, shortstop Ronny Cedeno and center fielder Corey Patterson.

ab-so-freaking-lutely.

I'm also going against the majority and saying Manny for Patterson, Prior, and Cedeno is a good deal.

Ronny Cedeno is a 22 year old shortstop who slugged over .500 in AAA last year and had an on base percentage over .400. At the same age as the prized Hanley Ramirez, he's much much more advanced.

Corey Patterson is a talented centerfielder who hasn't reached his potential just yet. He's only 26 years old, so he's got plenty of time to reach that potential if given a chance. Yes, his 2005 season was awful, but this guy was a potential 30-30 as recently as 2004. His defense looks slightly worse than Johnny Damon's (lower range factor but higher zone rating), and at a fraction of the price.

Mark Prior is 25 years old, and despite an injury history ALWAYS pitches well when healthy. If the Sox can keep him on the field he would be amazing in Boston IMO. Plus, with Schilling and Beckett in the fold, he wouldn't have the emotional pressure of being an ace here. He'd have the likes of Schilling and Wakefield and Timlin (veterans) and Jason Varitek calling his pitches.

Personally, I'm drooling at the idea of a rotation where MARK PRIOR is the #3 starter. How many times do you hear the phrase: "Pitching and defense wins championships?" A rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Prior, Wakefield, Clement is IMO a championship caliber rotation. Plus you get a replacement centerfielder, a very good young shortstop (who I've already said is more advanced than Hanley Ramirez at the same age) to boot?

Then you have Arroyo and Wells as traid bait to help fill first base and left field (Gordon Edes was saying Wells to San Diego for Adrian Gonzalez and Dave Roberts), and you could still trade Arroyo to Seattle for Jeremy Reed which gives you another guy to platoon with Patterson/Roberts/Nixon.

The best part here is that you still have Papelbon in the fold, so he could start the season in the bullpen making the pitching staff that much stronger.

I love the idea.

Yeah I like Prior, Patterson, and Cendo(anyone have his minor and major leagues stats? Thanks) We would have a very good young team and save a whole bunch of money. Prior is still only making 360K and we could nail him for the long term, Patterson has the talent and Papa Jack could really help him with that. I'd also like to sign or trade for a big bat. Maybe if we get prior we could somehow spin Arroyo and Clement to Seattle for Richie.

ken rosenthal of foxsports has just reported the Blue Jays are closer to a deal, but need to jump certain hurdles. Like...

Toronto is on Glaus' no trade list

They kind of already have a surplus of corner infielders as it is... Eric Hinske, Shea Hillenbrand, Corey Koskie, and Lyle Overbay.

if prior goes anywhere its Baltimore. the Cubs have offered this to the cubs according to mlbtraderumors

Cubs receive Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard for Mark Prior, Rich Hill, and Corey Patterson

The cubs are waiting for a response by the O's. I think any deal with prior will just include the orioles. The three team deal with manny is way to complicated

Plus I doubt the new guys have the balls to deal Manny Ramirez. Personally, I'd be on the phone with the Cubs as we speak capitalizing on the fact that they look like they're giving up on Prior. If I could get a package including Patterson, Prior, and a prospect like Cedeno for Manny I'd jump all over it.

If I were the Orioles I'd insist on getting a Ronny Cedeno in the deal because who's going to play shortstop if Tejada's gone?

Ben and Jed need to make something happen.

I don't know if anybody cares, but all four guys on Around the Horn said the Mark Prior/Miguel Tejada trade wouldn't happen.

wow no Jim Rome is Burning and Around the Horn till January 3rd? In the words of Wayne's World---"Denied!"

The Orioles remain in trade talks with several teams about Miguel Tejada, but as of now, no team has matched the club's asking price for the disgruntled All-Star shortstop.

According to team and industry sources, the most serious discussions the Orioles are having about Tejada appear to be with the Chicago Cubs, who are dangling a package that includes standout right-handed pitcher Mark Prior.

According to industry sources, however, the Cubs want Orioles left-hander Erik Bedard included in the deal and don't want to trade top outfield prospect Felix Pie, whom the Orioles covet. The Orioles also are slightly wary of Prior's recent history of elbow troubles and would prefer obtaining Carlos Zambrano, but the Cubs reportedly have no interest in trading him.

As of now, according to a source with knowledge of the trade talks, the two teams are not yet close to an agreement despite several proposals being sent back and forth. Cubs second baseman Todd Walker, center fielder Corey Patterson and 25-year-old left-handed pitching prospect Rich Hill have also been mentioned in a deal, but the Orioles aren't enthralled with Walker or Patterson.

Walker would essentially be a bench player with All-Star Brian Roberts entrenched at second base, and Patterson struggled mightily last season and would not seem to constitute that big of an upgrade over Luis Matos, whose status as the Orioles' everyday center fielder is in jeopardy.

The Orioles and Cubs have been in discussions for several weeks and have even gotten several teams involved in the trade talks. According to two industry sources, there was some preliminary discussion between the Orioles, Cubs and Oakland Athletics on a three-way deal that included Tejada, Bedard, Prior and Oakland ace Barry Zito among others heading to new homes. Prior and Zito were the centerpieces of the package coming to the Orioles in the early talks.

But at this point, the A's asking price for Zito appears to be sky-high, and the Orioles wouldn't be interested in obtaining the left-hander in a deal unless they can sign him - this is his contract year - to a long-term deal and that appears unlikely.

The Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels also reportedly have interest in Tejada, though to this point, none has come close to matching the Orioles' asking price. The Orioles have no interest in trading Tejada within the division to the Red Sox, but it is not impossible, according to a team source, that the club could get Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez in a three- or four-team deal without trading Tejada to Boston.

The Orioles are interested in White Sox right-hander Jon Garland, who is a free agent after this season, and had some talks with Chicago last week in a deal that didn't include Tejada, according to industry sources. However, the White Sox wanted Bedard, instead of pitching prospects in the deal, and the Orioles balked.

Despite telling several teammates, including Brian Roberts and Ramon Hernandez, that his public demand for a "change of scenery" earlier this month was said out of frustration and he didn't want to leave Baltimore, Tejada's representation has told the Orioles recently that the former MVP still wants a trade.

The Orioles clearly want to keep the shortstop but seem to be at least willing to deal him if the price is right. However as of now, it appears that Tejada will remain an Oriole at least through Christmas.

I was just brainstorming while on one of my daily walks I do, and thought of something. When Cubs missed out on the chance to re-sign Matt Clement, some of their F.O. looked at it as a mistake of not retaining him. Would it be plausible for the Sox to offer him in a trade?

Cubs get Matt Clement, and cash considerations or Tony Graffanino

Red Sox get cf Corey Patterson, ss Ronny Cedeno
