Alright then, just Young, but if we can get Hensley by maybe throwing in Abe, then we should do it

I'd rather package someone that would entice them to deal Adrian Gonzalez to us. It just depends on what it would take to get the deal done.

I'd rather sign J.T. Snow and get Hensley than make a package for Adrian Gonzalez.

I don't think Snow is a capable starting 1B these days, he has a good glove but he's 37 and on the decline. If we can somehow get Gonzalez for Wells or another part which isn't as valuable I'd be for it. I'm more concerned with shoring up the middle of our team right now (SS CF).

I was thinking about platooning him with Youk at first.

True, but the Wells trade-me-or-I-retire threat should be respected. If it can add another young corner IF with power potential to the post-2006 picture, then where do I sign up?

Yes I agree with you, I think I said it wrong though. Yeah I'd be all for trading Wells, but if Wells doesn't get Gonzalez then another non key part I just don't want to fill one gap but in the process open up another gap.

Snow is the last thing this team needs. Most of the moves this offseason have been about restructuring for the future. If that is what's going on, then give me the young guy with potential instead of the washed up has been.

Gotcha, and I agree, no more holes in the lineup.

Wash up? The man has won 6 GGs, has a career .356 OBP and a career .263 BA, with the 6 GGs. He's still good in a platoon position and could really teach Youk to learn the position.

Maybe washed up was a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but my point remains the same. If a restructure is happening, then they should go after a piece of the post-2006 puzzle.

Peter Gammons says the redsox have to get another bat in the middle of the lineup (Troy Glaus), a leadoff guy (Julio Lugo and takes care of SS) and a CF (Jeremy Reed, who he says well be better than Damon in 3-4 years).

gammons doesn't know anything..

p.s.- people, the other teams in the leauge are not charity organizations, they are businesses trying to make money and win it all, just like us. some of the trades you guys have come up with are absolutely absurd.

Name some of them and post your lineup for the 2006 Red Sox then.

He doesn't need to. It's called a critique. A review critic says a movie is stupid and not well-done. Does the producer tell the critic to produce a better movie? No. He can analyze these trades and see they are completely fantastical, and I can too. Not to mention there are still 3 months left until Spring Training. How could you possibly put a 2006 Red Sox lineup together now?

HAHAHAH! thats what we need...a 37 year old has been punch & judy hitter w/no power and last won his gold 5 years ago! if that's the case, Erstad has almost the same numbers with the ability to play both CF & 1B, and is only 31. I understand Snow is a FA and Erstad isn't but I'd rather go after Adrian Gonzalez if Youk isn't going to the chance to play 1B. About the only thing you can see management doing this offseason is making a concerted effort to get younger and retool for the future...something our counterparts in New York aren't familiar with.

that reminds of those idiots who 5 - 10 games into a new season say, "ya know, if the season ended today, ____ team would:___."

a.) be in 1st

b.) be in last

c.) win the division

-sorry just another pet peeve of mine, but i'm sure you get the point. despite the complete facelift done by the FO so far, I find it hard to believe this is lineup we can expect next spring. wishful thinking is one thing, but delusions of grandeur re: our trading prospects is something else completely.

The Red Sox are discussing Joey Gathright along with both Julio Lugo and Aubrey Huff in trade talks with the Rays.

A player for every hole in the Red Sox lineup, although there's certainly not much chance of them trading for all three. Gathright isn't the Red Sox's kind of player, and though the they could probably get away with having both him and Lugo in the starting lineup, they'd be taking too much of an offensive downgrade if they put Gathright in center and then signed Alex Gonzalez to play shortstop. Regardless, it's probably not going to be worth it in terms of the talent they'd need to surrender to acquire either Gathright or Lugo. Dec. 22 - 4:59 am et

Same, I love the idea of a blockbuster trade with Seattle(I don't love it because Manny would be in it, but I'd do it since he's "unhappy.") It would be;

Seattle Gets:

Manny R.

Matt Clement

Bronson Arroyo

Boston Gets:

Richie Sexson-1b

Raul Ibanez-LF

Jeremy Reed-CF

Julio Mateo-RP

1. Bronson Arroyo and Alex Cora for Jeremy Reed

2. David Wells for Duaner Sanchez and James Loney

3. Sign Royce Clayton, J.T. Snow and Eric Byrnes

LINEUP

1. Mark Loretta—2B—R (whos .365 career OBP is better than Damons .353)

4. Manny Ramirez—LF—R

5. Trot Nixon—RF—L

6. Mike Lowell—3B—R

7. Jason Varitek—C—S

Here mine

Lorreta-ss

Youk-1b

Ortiz-dh

Manny (God i will kill someone if they trade him at this point)-lf

Tek-c

Nixon-rf

Lowell-3b/Marte if Lowel Struggles early

Reed-CF what a downgarde

This lineup can only survive if Manny is here, even then the depth is gone, wow what a couple of years can make

Manny, there is talk that the Sox are talking trade with Ramirez again. How stupid can our front office be? We need Manny in the lineup; we don't need to create another hole and give Ortiz less protection in the batting order. The last two weeks have been a strain on all of us and I only hope they brace themselves and start getting the players we need to compete next season. Right now, we are a quart or two short.

they are only going to trade manny if they can get equal value in return which they won't so do not worry manny is not going anywhere even though he wants to be traded. the red sox will not trade him for 50 cents on a dollar.

Lugo would be a much better addition than both Huff and Gathright. Marte for Lugo AND Gathright doesn't sound so bad, but the Rays probably wouldn't go for it. The idea lineup would be to add Crisp and Lugo. A lineup of:

Lugo

Loretta

Ortiz

Manny

Nixon

Tek

Crisp

Lowell

Youk

seems better to me that what we put out there last year. It seems we could get Crisp if we are willing to include Marte. Seems highly unlikely but spinning Wells and B level prospects for Lugo and Marte for Crisp and maybe a prospect looks like a best case scenario.

Posted
I wouldn't say ideal, i think ideal is not trading away blue chip prospects for bodies to simply fill holes. I like Crisp, but do not like lugo. Would keeping Cora at SS until the all star break and trading for izturis make anyone sick? Wells and Shoppach for izturis and brazoban?
Posted

Trading for Izturis was discussed in another thread, I forget which one though...

There was plenty of interest among the posters though. I, for one, would welcome him with open arms. I'll take a defensive upgrade over Renteria for a dip in the offensive production.

marte has put up the stats while hanley has never matched the stats with his tools. marte is a much better prospect than hanley and plays a premium corner position where it is tough to find stud prospects.
