Reed is already known as a tremendous big league glove. He has potential to become a good bat, I actually think we may be better off getting Reed depending on when Damon hits his decline.

Yes, I absolutey love getting Reed.

With all the Damon talk he really wasnt half of who is now til he came to Boston. I think Reed is a guy who can become a pretty damn good CF for us.

How do you know, he has been in the league ONE YEAR?

He had a .992 FP with only 3 errors in Safeco. I dunno if I spelled that right but that's pretty damn good for a Rookie.

Not to mention his lousy 250 BA with 4 Hrs

We don't need him to hit HRs, and it was 4 in Safeco which would prolly be about 7-8 anywhere else. It was also his first full seaon, so by the time he's mature he'll prolly hit about 10-15 HRs a season. Maybe more.

Reed in CF is a good option, but our infield is a disaster waiting to happen. The FO need to make a big move to counter the Damon signing otherwise Red Sox nation will be questioning everything they do for the rest of the year, especially if Damon has a good year in New York. Talking to Cin and Balt has to be on the agenda and giving up Arroyo or Clement plus a mid to high grade prospect is a small price to pay to fill huge holes on the team with bonafide super start talent (I.E Tegada, Dunn, Griffey, Pena). AS of now, on paper, we third in the East behing the Yankees and Blue Jays.

No team needs bonafide superstars on their team to win, look at the White Sox, who was a superstar on their team, don't say Konkero either because he wasn't a superstar. Another team that comes to mind is the As, they don't have much superstar power except for Chavez and Zito and they still win. And nothing matters on paper, what matters is what actually happens. I think the BoSox are in great position for this year and years to come. We have great 1 year gappers for Pedrioa and Marte(Lowell and Loretta), and are locked in with young pitching with Paps and Lester, with another great young pitcher in Josh Beckett. The 2006 Red Sox will be great and every Red Sox team for a while will be great after that.

Everyone is saying we dropped down to third because of losing Damon, there are two issues I have with that: 1) No one player can drop a team down below two others, unless they are the BEST player in the league, or if the team sucks and 2) No way the Blue jays are better than us on paper. I've never heard of their SS, their catcher sucks, only solid OF they have is Wells, and Schill, Beckett, Wake, Papelbon, Clement/Arroyo > Halladay, Burnett, Lilly, Chacin, Towers.

Miguel Tejada (somehow keep Manny)

Roger Clemens.

Coco Crisp.

...and I have no idea how to do it

i don't want anything to do with any of those guys..

tejada will cost us an arm and a leg, it's not worth it..

clemens is old.. always a high risk high reward kind of guy, not worth the 18+ mill he'll be asking

coco crisp for marte? no way jose... find a stopgap, andruw jones is a free agent after 06.

manny

ortiz

jones

talk about a powerpacked middle of the lineup.

john

jones is a free agent after 07, back to the drawing boards for me..

schill is OLD!, expect definate declines

beckett is still an injury risk

wake as a 3rd is no good in the al east

papelbon might go into a sophomore slump

clement/arroyo will probably be dealt

the jays rotation is a good one

halladay is a horse

burnett is an injury risk

lilly is actually a very good pitcher who is still young

chacin was a very solid rookie last season

towers is a very solid 5th

i'de say the jays rotation is the best in the al east, second to the sox if ours is healthy.

I always thought andrew jones was a free agent after last yr until i called my father and he told it was 2007. i guess i was dreaming when i thought jones was a free agent after 2006.

i personally am coocoo for coco crisp

this guy had an obp and ops very similar to jd's last yr

and hes 6 yrs younger

however, i would not give up marte in the deal

i would def give up arroyo or clement(preferably), and maybe a prospect(depending on which one)

i saw on espnnews a seattle news reporter saying that reed is very slow breaking on the ball, and doesnt get to many fly balls (which is the reason he makes so many highlight reel plays)

He is just 24 and 2005 was his first full season in the majors, and thats how a lot of players are like when the first come up. Take David Wright for example. With age and experience, its something that should improve.

Reed lead all MLB CFs in Zone Rating, converting 94.3% of all balls hit into his zone into outs. This sounds like spin to me. When a player is rumored to be leaving, some media types feel they need to justify the deal to the fans.

It's clear that if Reed was the guy, then the deal would have been done by now. The Duo are obviuosly looking around for an "impact" player or a "fan favorite" like Roberts.

Its been couple of days since Damon has officially said goodbye to Boston. So 2 days after losing their center fielder means the trade is going nowhere? that makes sense.

This deal is still alive as a possibility, until I hear otherwise from a credible source.

I feel like all the sox fans in here are doing that with Damon.

You would. I'm sure that any age-based statistical analysis that suggests the tail-end of Damon's contract may be burdensome for the Yanks doesn't sit well with you. But at least there is some analysis to support our claims, unlike the reporter's comment that is easily discarded by taking 2 minutes to actually look up the data relevant to his claim.
