Who the hell does Lyle Overbay think he is?

I'm a big believer that Overbay is an idiot.

Welcome to the club.

I was really laughing my ass off when I first read that earlier.

Sox and Yanks walking hand in hand? NEVER! *gasp*

Hahaha, only for that reason (Lyle f***ing Overbay) do I believe we should team up. Never any other time, though.

On the other hand, hahah watch the Jays win the AL East....

I don't tihnk he's trying to be a jackass, he's just stating the truth. The bluejays have gotten good and definitly have a shot at the division. Wether Sox and Yanks fans want to believe it or not.

yeaaa but hes acting like the offseason is officially over and the roster we have is the rosterwe will have on opening day. Theres still 4 months left for Boston to better themselves.

As it stands right now their offense hasnt much improved. They also signed a 5 year/$47 million contract to a guy who's been a closer for just 1 season. And 5 years/$55 million to a pitcher who's below .500 and has never won more than 12 games in a season.

I hate when athletes who have have done nothing in their careers start their mouths. Does Lyle Overbay think he's some great piece to the puzzle thats going to spark the Blue Jays and help them leap frog 2 teams that have been in front of them for quite some time?

Riverside is right. Did BJ Ryan seem to I think they've made almost 100 Million in mistakes this offseason, but left Lyle think what he wants.

Pitching wins ball games They are looking at Hallady, nuff said, Burnett nuff aid, Chacin who had the bast ERA+ of any pither in the AL East last year, Josh Towers who had the second best ERA+ of any pitcher in the AL East last year and Ted Lilly who we know is a good pitcher, and great for a 5 starter.

Just ask the Oakland A's you can win with just pitching, I tihnk the Jays have the best rotation in baseball.

eh, the White Sox still have the best rotation as of now. Besides we'll know who has the best rotation when the season asctually starts, whats on paper doesnt always turn into fact..

There better be a sox jays and yanks days series back to back. Gotta destroy his cocky little ass each and every game.

What we need to do is ignore morons like Lyle Overbay and worry about baseball. The better team will come out on top. Talks cheap.

Well, yeah Overbay is a tactless tool, and he was a big mouth on Milwaukee too, it just wasn't publicized at all really... cause it was in Milwaukee. Kinda like when a tree falls in the woods and there isn't anybody there to see it or hear it, do the Brewers really exsist?

Ok, so he's a tool. No tact. Yeah, but what do we want him to say "I have very little confidence in my new team despite their spending, blah blah, boy the sox do have a good farm system and maybe Randy Johnson isn't as ugly as they say" His team will finish third, but when you get traded you're supposed to be kind of a cheer leader.

You can cheer for your team without mentioning any other teams. There was absolutely no need to bring up the Red Sox or Yankees.

to think the jays are not an improved team is silly.

"Their run differential -- they scored 775 runs and gave up 705 -- suggests an 88-74 record rather than their actual 80-82 record. In fact, according to this article, the Blue Jays were only the third team ever to outscore their opponents by at least 70 runs but lose more games than they won. Like virtually every other team that underperforms its run differential, the Blue Jays fared poorly in one-run games. Worse than poorly -- they were 16-31 in one-run games, worst in the majors.

So with a +70 run differential and that record in one run games why do you think it was so important for them to get BJ Ryan? This team will be damn good next season, could win over 90 games, and will play spoiler in the division if they don't come out and win the damn thing." - panama red

lyle overbay should keep his mouth shut but there is nothing wrong with speaking up and talking a bit of smack. if any sox did it you would all be bragging about how cool it was. it's not like any newly signed sox never said watch out yankees, the division is ours this year.

Who cares, honestly, if he thinks hes going to beat the red sox and the yankees, great! good for him. He looks like howdy doodie and is a mediocre player with a lofty ego. Why is everyone so up in arms over this? I'm glad he said it, I love our little scuffles with tampa, and I would love bad blood with the blue jays too. At least their competitive. Do you want them to compliment us or something?

He said we should have spent money like the jays, the truth is he's wrong. I love our offseason, and the FO's baseball philosophy is going to prove to be a better more long lasting one than signing a couple of over priced unproven pitchers and giving up our farm system to trade for a stiff like overbay. The jays did get sexually assaulted in that trade btw. If the sox gave up Lester to get him, and paid BJ Ryan and Burnett that kind of money, and overbay scheduled a conference to talk about how awesome those moves were, I would advocate his departure right here as soon as I got wind of it. The Jays made moves that will put them in a hole down the road. Who cares.

Excellent points that you bring attention to. The post-1996 Yankees have consistently exceeded their Pythagorean record. The reason they have been able to do this is their close-game record, and as everyone knows, Mariano Rivera makes appearances in close games. Teams with strong late-inning bullpens outperform their Pythag. Rec. routinely. Watch out for the Jays this year.

There was plenty of reason to talk about the Red OS xand Yankees. They are the peple to go through to get the AL East Crown. Dodging the Red Sox and Yankees in an interview would just be stupid. I don't see why everybody makes a big deal out of this, he jsut stated the obvious.

I agree with you that it is inevitable mentioning the Sox and Yanks due to their division dominance, but we really didnt need the arrogance, especially from Lyle Overbay

Someone need to tell Lyle about the rules of the AL East Club.

Rule #1: You do not call out the Yankees or Red Sox unless you ARE the Yankees or red Sox

Rule #2: You do not call out the Yankees or Red Sox unless you ARE the Yankees or red Sox!

Rule #3: You do not call out the Yankees or Red Sox unless you ARE the Yankees or red Sox!!

That being said though. That rotation of theirs just might be the best in the division.

Overbay is nothing special he's just another Eric Hinske. The Jays are still no threat to the Sox or Yankees.

did you read my post? if you don't believe that the jays are a threat you are going to be in for a rude awakening.

the jays are a good team. the al east just got that much tighter this year.
