these 2 players have been highly underrated this season as FA, perez in very valuable because he brings a Milliar likeness to the clubhouse, can play any position, is a verteran, and batted .255 with 11 HRs in a limited role, he's very useful, 2 years 4 million

the sox NEED to sign Hector because he's a great middle reliever..talking about the van buren guy, he had 13 walks in 6 innings, a little shaky for me, i'd start him in AAA, hector on the other hand had a 2.04 ERA in 88.1 innings with 75 Ks, very good as well, 2 years 2 million for me

Perez is a career .247 hitter who's only strength is defense. I don't see any NEED to get him. Carrasco is 36 years old and has had one season (last year) in the last 7 in which his ERA was under 4.00. I don't really think either these guys are a MUST SIGN as you make them out to be.

Why pay a guy 1 million if you are going to start him in AAA? Why would he sign here if we're going to start him in AAA. He had a 2.04 ERA after 6 straight seasons having an ERA over 4. Bringing in Eduardo Perez looks like you're bringing in Millar version 2 which is what we are trying to avoid. So I think we can survive if we don't bring these guys in.

The Nationals are fighting to keep right-hander Hector Carrasco. A baseball source said Carrasco is close to signing with a West Coast team. An invaluable reliever who filled in as a starter at the end of the season, Carrasco, 36, went 5-4 with a 2.04 ERA.

Right now the team has 3 corner IF in Lowell, Youk, and Petagine. With Youk most likely spelling Lowell at 3rd and platooning at 1st, the only way Perez makes sense is if you can get him to sign a minor league contract and have him as injury insurance.

Counting Papelbon as a starting pitcher, there are 7 starters under contract right now and 3 MLB relievers. This is counting Van Buren, Delcarmen, Hansen, and DiNardo as minor leaguers. I'd like to see another MLB proven arm in the pen, but that will affect their ability to call some of the youngsters up, which I think is a goal going into the season.

Well, you have to pretty much assume that Arroyo will be in the pen and that wells will be traded. Wells will probably bring back a reliever. So, with that, you've got 5 starters and 5 Pen pitchers, not to mention this Ishii guy from Japan who apparently is a beast who may be freed up to pitch in the U.S. who the sox are expected to snatch up quickly.

There is still the chance the sox will sign taveras. I don't like carrasco. I don't trust taking a guy like that out of his system.

Jullian Tavaras? If so I hope not. The guy is a pretty good reliever, but he's a hot head, and he makes really bad decisions. I don't want him one the team.

I agree i dont want him on the team , he's a very wild pitcher. In 65 innings pitched he's hit 8 batters and 19 walks! AND the opposition is batting 345 againts him, he allows to many runners on base

Well, if ishii is a sure thing from japan, and he will be freed to file for free agency here then I would rather him, but I think taveras might be the best option now if you're one pitcher away from having a dependable bullpen, which i think the sox are.

no possibility of Carrasco even if Sox wanted him. Its no big loss for Boston.

Yahoo! Sports: Angels sign RHP Carrasco to two-year contract

December 2, 2005

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - Righthander Hector Carrasco, who pitched well as a starter down the stretch last season, signed a two-year contract Friday with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal does include a club option for the 2008 campaign. The 36-year-old Carrasco made 59 appearances out of the bullpen for the Washington Nationals before moving into the rotation in September. In five starts, Carrasco went 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA, allowing zero runs three times.

Overall, the Dominican was 5-4 with two saves and a 2.04 ERA, striking out 75 in 88 1/3 innings. Carrasco owns a 35-46 record and a 3.94 ERA in 563 appearances - all but six coming in relief - for six teams.

I think his ERA will balloon back up to his career ERA around 4.00 this season. While certainly serviceable, I don't think we missed anything.

You just NEED to have absolutely every FA on the market...don't you?
