ESPN is reporting that he did indeed agree to a five year, $60 million deal, which is almost a bargain for him considering his playoff heroics and past great seasons.

Though I have never been a huge Konerko or White Sox fan, I really applaud Konerko for taking less money to play for his long time team. It's not too surprising either, who wouldn't want to resign with a defending World Series Champion...not named Pedro...?

While this is a big signing for the White Sox, they still may need to add talent in order to remotely match their success of last year, considering the great improvement (already) of teams like Toronto, our Red Sox, and (inevitably) the Yankees, who are sure to sign or trade for some serious talent sometime this offseason. Big time signing by the ChiSox nonetheless.

this is actually kinda good now because the angels were very interested in konkero to protect vlad and now that there is no other power hitter on the FA market, they will turn to manny now

The Angels don't really have anybody worth taking , and I don't wanna do Glaus + prospects for Manny. Not to mention Manny should not be traded to an AL team.

We won with pitching last year...and we have all six of our starters back for next year (pending El Duque who will probably be in the pen). And now our lineup is improved...Thome/Konerko/Dye is one of the best 3/4/5 in MLB. We're still looking for a #2 hitter to move Iguchi down in the order so he can produce more runs.

We've got our pitching and a better lineup...we're good.

Well, they're looking for a real #2 hitter. Like "thee sox" said, Iguchi has proved he's a force with the bat, so they wanna use him lower in the order to produce more runs. They don't have a complete solution for the #2 slot.

You can't have Dye in the number 2 slot because people are too willing to pitch around Konerko to get to Iguchi, even though he's pretty good. Also, Dye just needs to be lower in the order to be a run producer. He has a great bat and can be an RBI machine.
