The Red Sox have explored trade talks for a few veteran first basemen, including Milwaukee??™s Lyle Overbay and Cincinnati??™s Sean Casey. Sources indicated that talks are ongoing with the Reds regarding 31-year-old Casey, who is owed $8.5 million next season after batting .312 with nine home runs, 58 RBI and a .371 on-base percentage in 2005. The affable, left-handed hitter owns a lifetime batting average of .305, and has struck out only 467 times in 4,017 at-bats. Cincinnati is looking for players who could play right away and is believed to have interest in Bronson Arroyo and Queen City native Kevin Youkilis, among others.

I say sign J.T. Snow to platoon with Youk at first base, Snow has won four Gold Gloves, and now that we have the money we should sign him to a two-year deal or something. Next we need to try to trade Clement to Seattle for Jeremy Reed, the guy is a great defensive CF, and he's got talent. I don't care if we have to take on some of Clement's salary, but don't get ripped off. Then we spin Nixon to a team for a 5th starter/Bullpen guy to get rid of his salary and sign Rondell White to a 2 year, incentive laden deal to play RF for us. Manny is still playing LF whether he likes it or not. Then we spin Wells to the Pads for Linebrink/Roberts(If we can't get Snow, the instead of Roberts put Gonzalez). Then we go after Tony G/Alex G(doesn't matter to me) very aggresively, So the 2006 Sox line up will be;

Reed

Loretta

Ortiz

Manny

Lowell

White

Tek

Youk/Snow or Gonzalez

Alex G/Tony G

still pretty good

Could the Padres turn around and offer Adrian Gonzalez as part of a package to the Red Sox for Kelly Shoppach ??“ the Padres need a catcher ??“ and David Wells? "We kicked that around today and I don't think so," said John Boggs, Gonzalez's San Diego-based agent. "I think both the Padres and Adrian realize how great it would be for Gonzalez to be San Diego's first baseman for seasons to come. All I've ever heard from the Padres is how they value Gonzalez."
