what the hell did Toronto do/say to persuade him to go north of the border, eh?

Also, what on earth was he thinking aboot, im sure we would have matched that, or even threw a few more dollars onto the total.

Apparently, he really wanted to close games.

He could have closed games for somebody else.

I dont know why he would go there, I would have chosen Detroit or Cleveland over the Blue Jays

I was just on the daily news site and saw nothing about this. Not until I clicked on the link in the original post.

It's right at the top, under the "Breaking News" box (it's red, with white writing.)

Ryan is harmless in Toronto.

I wouldnt say that. They have a good team up there. It would be pretty nice to see them geta real SS besides Russ Johnson and John McDonald, who I like, but really cant play an everyday SS. If they do that, they will be a pretty good team.

Halliday

Burnett

Lilly

Towers

Chacin

Not too shabby for a Toronto starting staff.

Yeah, it was on sosh and rotoworld to. Nothing on MLB.com yet, but wow this is a big deal. The Jay's got beat up in one run games this year, but they scored more runs then they gave up. They clearly want to right that, and i think this is a big step in that direction.

Well, even when Jorge Julio was the official closer in Baltimore, Ryan was still dominant. I definitely think the Jays are inching closer to being an official threat in the AL East. The AL East is easily the most dominant/competitive division in the majors. This season is just going to be amazing.

Of all the AL East teams to go to, this one seems pretty benign. If we're in a situation where we're trying to get a win in the 9th against Toronto then things aren't looking good for the sox. I imagine most of our wins against them won't have to come against a closer... hopefully we can score early and often.

I would have been a lot more worried if he went to set-up for, say, the A's, or Angels, Yankees, Twins or White Sox.

I dont know if I can handle another amazing season. After last year I could really go for a typical Yankees season, where we cruise out in front of the division early, stay there all season, win the division, win 100+ games, and go to the playoffs. Toronto is doing everything possible to prevent that from happening.

Miguel Batista has now become trade bait. Not being a Blue Jays fan, I'm looking at their roster and am saying to myself that they ought to invest in a quality bat to put behind Vernon Wells or else having such a dominant closing pitcher may not make much of a difference, since they may not be able to give him the ball as often as they'd like to. They need to get another quality hitter to help put some runs on the board to give B.J. Ryan the ball in the 9th inning.

The Jay's actually weren't that bad untill Halladay got hurt last year. I'm not saying they're gonna make a run at the east or anything but they will be a pesky little team.

They will be decent but the Yankees and Red Sox are still the teams to beat...they always are. Baltimore had a better offense most of the season and they had Ryan...but they faded just as Toronto most likely will fade. Not sure I'll say this is a good sign for them with that money. If I was them I would have invested more cash to Burnett....if they want to win there best hope would have been a Burnett-Halladay punch which is pretty nasty.

Well, Baltimore's rotation also had a shitload of problems. Other than Bedard, who went down for a good length of time, they had next to no one decent. Ponson is a drunk little bastard, and Rodrigo Lopez was a pest sometimes (normally, always a pest to the Sox). Toronto has a consistent rotation throughout, and it's not too bad for a Toronto rotation (I'm assuming with this move of acquiring with Ryan, Burnett is no longer in the mix with them):

Halladay

Lilly

Towers

Chacin

Batista (Used to be a starter, but went to close. Now can start again. Instead of trading him, why not use him effectively?)

Again, that rotation is only if they don't get Burnett. If they do get Burnett, I would stick with Batista in the rotation and see if they can ship Towers off somewhere for a somewhat decent bat. If Towers doesn't get it done, then I guess shipping off Batista for a bat would work too.

But basically what I'm trying to say is, if the Jays can stay healthy throughout, their rotation is an added element that the Orioles simply didn't have. The Jays are a pretty well rounded team, and if they don't make some serious noise this year, they will play the role of "spoiler" this year pretty decently.

I wouldn't mind having that rotation. They got an ace in Halliday. A guy that can beat division rivals lilly. Chacin I don't know much about but I belive he's the jays arroyo and Batisa has had success in the past and can bring it back.
