Bad trade for the Giants, IMO.

EDIT: Although, they don't need Alfonzo because Feliz is their starting 3B anyway.

EDIT again: Tomko has just signed with the Dodgers.

Even though he only spent a portion of a season in LA does it bother you that he will be going to SF? Especially considering that he practically won you guys the division with his walkoff?

No, not at all, since his last real "Steve Finley" season was 2004 anyway. But I am so scared that that grandslam might be reversed this year. :(

Funny article from DodgerBlues.com:

December 23, 2005

Fruitcake sucks and so does Brett Tomko -

Not that we care, but maybe someone should check on Frank McCourt to make sure he's not tied up and bound in his office. How else can you explain the Dodgers' sudden shopping spree? Ned Colletti continued dishing out McCourt's dough on Thursday, signing free-agent Brett Tomko to a 2-year deal worth $8.7 million. If Tomko is a $4 million dollar pitcher, than we're the John Steinbeck of the internet. It's terrific that Tomko pitched two great games against the Dodgers over the course of his 9-year career (one against Nomo in '97 and one when Steve Finley hit his slam in '04), but he's not any better than D.J. Houlton or, for that matter, D.J. Houlton's grandmother. Tomko has a career ERA of 4.52, and you can't blame it on spending time in the American League (where he pitched for only two seasons). If there's any positive with Tomko, it's that he eats innings (as opposed to Odalis Perez, who eats everything), meaning we'll see less of Jonathan Broxton and Franquelis Osoria.

In other Dodger news, Norihiro Nakamura was officially released earlier in the week. Nakamura, who spent the majority of last season at triple-A Las Vegas, will be sorely missed by... by... uh... his translator, who's now out of a job.

joe randa signed a 1 year/4 million$ deal with the pirates.

The Pirates today reached agreement on a one-year contract with free-agent third baseman Joe Randa, pending his passing a physical.

Financial terms were not immediately available, but his salary will be in the range of $4 million.

Randa, 36, is a 10-year veteran who spent one season with the Pirates in 1997, helping that $9 million team to an unlikely run at the National League Central Division title. He split last season between the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres and batted .276 with 17 home runs and 68 RBIs. He made $2.15 million.

Randa's addition gives the Pirates the experienced starting third baseman they were seeking and pushes Freddy Sanchez, who held the job late last season, back into an infield utility role.

classic cairo moment

late 2004 game, both Manny and Cairo both thought they had hit homeruns and both had rounded the bases. Manny was sidetracked by the umps calling his homerun a foul ball instead, and then Cairo finding out at the dugout that Manny had taketh his homerun away.
