Alright who the hell called him a hall of famer???? I don't think anybody did and yes we are calling him an ace. I would like Josh Beckett to hear that so he understands the expectations....the man is cocky and arrogant....has some good veterans around him and a explosive offense. The pieces are set for this highly touted player to fully blossom into an all star.....its not just Boston by the way that is talking this trade up so much.

Good post...no response

woahhh....wait a second. That is our arguement because whenever we acquire a pitcher from the NL you guys are always screaming the same arguement. The EXACT same arguement. While it may not have been you directly, many Red Sox fans, including several on this board have used that arguement against us. Talk about contradiction.
I understand your logic here but there's one HUGE flaw in it. I say I worry about NL pitchers switching to AL all he time but my arguemant here was that I'm not worried about it because he's already proved that he can pitch against Al teamsby shuttingout the booming offense '03 Yankees on 3 days rest. This guy can pitch to anyone.

Lay off the s*** 2212, seeing a contradiction there is pure hallucination. Something can annoy you without being a major concern.

If he's so cocksure that Beckett will be healthy, then there's no need to keep arguing with us on that point.

I think it should be a concern, and he's blowing it off he doesn't want to think there is the remote possiblity the trade could turn out bad. Ignoring the potential negatives of the trade is just stupid.

2 starts is not fact. Carl Pavano shut down the Yankees in that series too.

Carl Pavano also didn't pitch that poorly in AL. He just got hurt for most of the season.

So does Pavano bounce back this year with a sub-4 ERA?

Posted
He could, hes not a bad pitcher. See, Jaret Wright is a bad pitcher, not only did he have the leaving the NL for the AL factor against him, but he also has the leaving Leo Mazzone for someone who isn't Leo Mazzone factor going against him as well. Wright won't bounce back most likely. Pavano is a good pitcher, he could bounce back. I don't think he is Josh Beckett good, or Johan Santana nasty, but I think he could win 15+ with that offense no problem and have an ERA around 3.50 give or take.

news on beckett has been very quiet...a little too quiet

I read somewhere that the 72 Hour window that MLB gave us to look over Becketts' medical record's ended at 6 pm, so I was just wondering

Posted
thats standard, i think its quiet because of the holiday. they obviously want to make sure that they arent giving up two top prospects for a guy whose shoulder is going to deteriorate. They probably also want to make sure that the cancer lowell had in 99 has no chance of coming back also, that could be a factor. A lot of times its in remission with the possibility of returning, but i think hes out of the woods if it happened in 99. Probably just out. Its no big deal, they will announce tomorrow that its done. I think all the question is on the red sox side. They want to be thorough and make sure that becketts shoulder is fine before doing it and then it will be done.

This trade better go through. I think it is worth the risk. There is as much a chnce of it totally killing u guys as it is of really helping u guys.

Too bad we don't have Theo anymore, or he could have gone down to Beckett's house for Thanksgiving to help to seal the deal.
Posted
I don't think the deal has the potential to KILL us, because we really aren't giving up a whole lot for this. Sanchez is iffy, but i did like him a lot but i knew he was iffy then with all the injuries. The closest player to contributing for the sox in this deal was jesus delgado, there was some talk about him coming up to the big club early if their bullpen struggled. Hanley wasn't ever going to play in a Boston uniform anyways. It has the chance to either really help us, or break even.

So what is the deal? I thought the Sox had until 6pm earlier tonight to sign the guy. I've checked everywhere and have found nothing on the status of this trade. I know they may be putting it off until tomorrow, but there should at least be some sort of update - even if there is an extention of the 72 hour negotiating window...

There was something on MLB.com that said they were extending it until tomorrow for them, so we'll know if Beckett is healthy or not tomorrow. He already had a clean bill of health given to him at the end of the season. The sox are just taking their time checking the merchandise, because this is a monster trade. So, pretty much, Beckett officially becomes a red sock tomorrow.

AWWW s***. Gotta give Lucchino his due.... Since this ownership has taken over, it's almost like they know exactly what do do when it comes to sticking it to the Yankees.

about Mota @ only 2.6 million...

"After forming a devastating late-game combination with Eric Gagne in the Dodgers' bullpen for the third straight year, Guillermo Mota was dealt to Florida on July 30, shaking up the bullpens of both clubs. Mota handled closing duties for more than two weeks while Armando Benitez was on the DL, then settled back into his familiar setup role. He finished the year poorly, posting a 10.66 ERA in his last 11 appearances.

Pitching, Defense & Hitting

Mota has all the pitches to be a top-rate closer, though he is still mostly untested in the role. He features a 94-96 MPH fastball, a plus change he learned from Gagne and a slider he doesn't throw as much as he should. For someone with such velocity, Mota has a strange tendency to lean too heavily on his change. He was beaten for home runs on the pitch several times in September. Mota is a good fielder but has had major problems controlling the running game.

The Manny situation is no where near as bad as TO's.

Yea..thats true, but its the only thing I thought of at the time..I guess like its some where between Eli Manning and the Lakers....lol

wow damn i didnt expect this, an upgrade to our bullpen to say the least though his past couple of seasons with Florida had ERA's of under 5. What does anybody else think to swing Mota with Wells to San Diego, which could insure getting Akinori Otsuka. Im high on getting him. Though, Id still be happy either way.

Josh Beckett commenting on becoming a Red Sox--"It's an exciting time getting to go to Boston to play," said Beckett, who organized a conference call with the Marlins beat writers immediately after being notified of the trade. "I had a Boston hat growing up and I'm from Texas."

his idol just so happens to be Roger Clemens, he of course adorned the #21 on his Marlins jersey.

Evidently, the Sox included a fourth prospect : righthander Harvey Garcia. I have no idea who this guy is.

Garcia throws hard with some good control, i think thats his thing, control. Throws mostly all fastballs but has a decent curveball and pretty s***** change up. He was an ok prospect, nothing to lose sleep over.
