will this trade have anything to do with the sox?

are the padres getting cameron to ship to us as part of a wells deal?

are the mets getting nady to ship to us as part of a manny deal?

I think the padres are getting cameron because they need someone who has some pop in his bat. I think they're going to be keeping him. The mets shipping nady to us, thats a possibility, i didn't think of that. I hope we don't deal manny, but thats interesting.

Report: Mets trade OF Cameron to Padres for OF/1B Nady

November 16, 2005

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Mike Cameron's horrifying collision with fellow outfielder Carlos Beltran apparently marked the end of his playing tenure with the New York Mets. According to a report in Newsday, the Mets have agreed to trade Cameron to the San Diego Padres for outfielder-first baseman Xavier Nady. The report stated the deal is pending the result of a physical to check Cameron's eyesight, which was feared to be impaired in a violent collision in right-center field at San Diego on August 11.

Cameron was placed on the disabled list the next day and underwent successful surgery to repair his fractured nose and cheekbones, ending his season. The 32-year-old Cameron, who also began the season on the disabled list, batted .273 with 12 homers and 39 RBI in 308 at-bats in 2005. In 1,268 career games with the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati, Seattle and New York, Cameron is a .249 hitter with 173 homers and 625 RBI.

In his first season with the Mets in 2004, Cameron hit just .231 but slugged a career-high 30 homers. A two-time Gold Glove Award winning center fielder, Cameron was moved to right field when the Mets signed Beltran prior to last season. The 2001 All-Star likely will move back to center field for the Padres. Nady, 27, batted .261 with 13 homers and 43 RBI in 2005, playing 68 games in the outfield and seeing time at both corner infield positions. San Diego's second-round pick in 2000, Nady eclipsed the 20-homer plateau twice in the minor leagues.

The Mets seem to be trying hard to work something out. I doubt seriously that the Padres are trying for Manny. For starters, I don't see the Padres taking on the remainder of Manny's salary and Manny is a 10-5 guy(been in the league for ten years and on one team for the last five). Which means he has the right to veto any trade he deems unsuitable. The Mets are probably trying to get something for Cameron. He was kind of expensive and he had that nasty collision with Beltran that broke several bones in his face. He also hasn't been cleared by a Dr. yet. Evident;y his eyesight isn't 100%. The Red Sox need to sign a GM before they do anything. I've heard rumors that Theo may want to come back afterall, but that would make Luchinno look like he gave in or something. It's all about a power struggle or something. Who knows.

no one even mentioned manny to the padres, it would be david wells rather to his former team. the reason why this trade is interesting is because cameron was involved in any manny to mets trade deal

Yeah, I've been watching Nady from here in Portland (the Beavers are the AAA team), and he's nothing great. He's already 27 and wasn't good enough to start for San Diego.

Basically I think this may mean that the Mets are not planning on working for Manny.

I love it when we keep manny by process of elimination!!!

why the hell is Omar doing this? He better be getting something else in this deal. The outrage of Mets fans is going to be unbelieveable when this trade is made official.

yahoo sports had given some good insight

Nady will probably platoon with Mike Jacobs at first base and serve as a fourth outfielder in New York. This could open the door for the Mets to pursue Manny Ramirez if they don't feel comfortable in playing Victor Diaz every day in right field. The Padres are getting the better end of this trade, as Nady showed last year that he is not ready to be a full-time player and is best suited for use in a platoon situation.

the only thing being, is that what will the Mets deal to the Sox for manny now? if there will even be a manny trade that is

Very puzzling, does nothing but give away their bargaining chip for Manny, I would have hated to trade Manny for him though.

Exactly, it makes no sense to give away the top bargaining chip for a player like Nady. I have a feeling there is more to this deal then just Cam/Nady and Newsday just doesnt have the entire scoop.

now that I think about it, this trade could really end up with Mets taking themselves out of the Manny debacle. Cameron was their main centerpiece in any manny trade deal. Now Ive seen reports the Mets next objective is to trade for left handed power slugger Carlos Delgado, which would cost less for them opposed to having to pick up any of Manny's remaining $57 million. As well as give them the big bat they they have needed.

They won't save much if they pick up Delgado. He's due $13.5M, $14.4M, and $16M over the next three years, with a $12M team option or $4M buyout for 2009. That's $47.9M guaranteed, and $55.9M if they pick up the option.

Also, the 2009 option becomes guaranteed at $16M if he earns 30+ MVP points on the following system: 10 pts. for an NL MVP 1st place finish that prorates to 1 pt. for a 10th place finish, 20 pts. for WS MVP, 10 pts. for NLCS MVP. He finished 6th in the NL MVP balloting this year, earning him 5 pts., so he needs only 25 more pts. over the next three years to make 2009 guaranteed at $16M. That would make his total contract worth $59.9M through 2009 if he earned the points needed.
