For such a smart basketball mind, Joe Dumars has done some really f***ing stupid things in the past two years. Starting with the Billups/Iverson trade, unnecessary blowing up that season, then using the resulting cap space on a couple of bench players who do nothing to help you win and whose contracts will weigh on that team like iron weights until they're expired. Then he refuses to trade the rest of that team's 'core' (Prince and Hamilton, Stuckey should go too), keeping the team in some kind of half-ass rebuilding mode purgatory and delaying their return to respectability. He seems convinced that they can compete as built, so he's probably not dealing any of the three anytime soon. These guys will be a 35-40 win team for the next 5 years with no way of drastically improving from outside.

At least he drafted Greg Monroe, but he's going to have to be another Chris Webber, and fast, if Detroit's going anywhere soon.

Consider me on board with the idea of trading Melo for Derrick Favors, AK-47, and two first round picks. I would like the deal even more if I didn't know that the Nuggets will eventually waste or blow those first round picks since they seem to greatly dislike the NBA draft for some reason or another. Here's a question... how does the top 7 protected draft pick work? Does that mean if it's in the top 7 the original team (Warriors) keep the pick?

I thought Melo was going to go to Chicago or New York but both teams lost interest. I don't like the trade to the Nets. I'm hoping it doesn't go through but according to ESPN there's a good chance.

You don't like it from the Nuggets perspective?

I like it quite a bit, actually, if they use those draft picks wisely... then again, it's the Nuggets we're talking about it. They'll probably trade them straight up for either second round picks or future first round picks, which they will eventually trade for future first round picks, which they will eventually trade for future first round picks, which... you get the idea.

I love Favors' upside, but he'll either be a force in this league or he'll be Tyrus Thomas.

I mean the trade overall isn't a bad thing. I just rather have Melo with the Nuggets.

When was the last time that the Nuggets used a draft pick anyway?

I really don't know. I do know that I think 2006 the Nuggets traded Joe Smith, Andre Miller and 2 first round draft picks of the 2007 draft to the Sixers to get Allen Iverson. I only know that because Iverson is my idol haha.

Last year in the second round, but they traded his rights away for cash from Houston. Before that? 2006. They took Leon Powe in the second round and traded away his rights for a future second round pick. The last guy they actually took that played for them was Julius Hodge in 2005 (a great pick ) and before that, Melo in 2003. That's not to say they haven't used their picks, they traded a first rounder for Ty Lawson.

Yep, Nuggets fan -- from Colorado, actually. And the Nuggets refusal to build through the draft is a discussion I have often when it comes to the Nuggets, so I've pretty much got that one down pretty well.

And I'd add to the draft thing that they'd have screwed the pooch in 2003 had they had the second pick because Kiki Vandeweigh had a thing for foreign players (Skita, anybody? Ugh...) and wanted Darco Milicic.

Thomas has no work ethic and is not coachable. Favors will be much better than him, IMO.

Heh, no worries, I understand. Not a member of that board, though.
