I think we could sign Durazo, and use arroyo to booster up the manny trade vaule, durazo is a great hitter with a excellent OBP(22 HRs, 88 RBIs, .396 OBP, .522 Slugging) in 2004..true he spent alot of the 2005 season on the DL, and may not be able to play until the All-Star break of 2006, but he could be a great gamble...like Ortiz hopefully, we could sign Matt Lecory and John Olreud to platoon their till Durazo could come back, and trade the one that isn't having the better year

I was thinking about him. Yes the potential is there and he always puts up a great OBP which is a clear sign the guy can see the ball well....if he can make contact like he did in 2004 then it would be huge. However, he does have injury issues, turns 31 in 2006, and isn't too great defensively. Deffinitly another intriguing player from the Oakland Athletics.

wait what about trading manny and arroyo? Durazo sure thing, but I didn't quite get your post, carter. But yeah I like Durazo enough, good player but is he an FA or is he signed through 06?

i meant if we wanted to trade manny(not that i want to), we could put arroyo in their to booster his value and Durazo is a FA

But doesn't Durazo also play first base? We wouldn't need to make room for him by trading manny. You could put arroyo in a package with manny but i think manny has plenty of value on his own and that wouldn't be needed really. I think that arroyo might be best served staying where he is or being the center piece of a trade for a first basemen if they can't sign one. I don't know if any of that made sense, i have mono and im reaallly tired right now, so if it didn't im sorry you read that.

Matt LeCroy?!?!?

Why on earth would we want to replace one tub of goo with another? This guy is poor man's version of Kevin Millar.

                  Kevin Millar Matt LeCroy
Career OBP .365 .327
Career OPS+ 118 100
Career FRAA 14 -13

Millar had a 100 OPS+ this year to LeCroy's 111, but this was a below average year for Millar while it was an above average one for LeCroy. LeCroy has only been better than league average (OPS+ of 100) in 2 of the 5 years that he had more than 150 ABs, where as Millar has been league average or better in 7 out of the 7 seasons he's had more than 150 ABs.

LeCroy is league average as a hitter and he can't field or run. There is a reason this guy hasn't played more than 110 games in a season. He's either injury prone, or he's just not good enough to play every day. Whichever is the case, I don't want any part of him. We are trying to upgrade 1B, not downgrade.

Durazo is nice but he plays alot of DH for the A's. We don't need another DH, we have the best at the position. And plus someone said his defense is not great. Interesting gut though...who next jimmycarter? Eric Chavez...

LOL. What happened to getting Chad Tracy?

i posted many thoughts about that with all the talk of manny maybe going to az, but with all the encouraging respones people gave me<_ i figured that didn need to talk about him anymore and durazo has a career .988 fielding>

until Durazo can get healthly, what about platooning julio franco and olreud? cheap alternatives

Julio Franco? Yes he was a good player in his day. The man will be 48 next season, which means an injury would be waiting to happen.

Im still not sold on Erubiel Durazo, as a Dh he will deliver great offense. But defense? Past 3 seasons he has played a total of 38 games. And still him coming back at the all-star break is an estimated guess, and whose to say he will return to his hitting form after the surgery? Id rather have on the safe side, Sox not risk it and go for a healthier alternative. They took on a risk on Wade Miller who had a delayed debut and look how that had played out.

we also took a risk on david ortiz and look how that turned out

When we took the chance on Ortiz he was 27 and healthy. We paid him $1.25M on the chance that he would improve once he got on a team that embraced him using his power stroke (the Twins were trying to shorten his swing). Durazo already plays for a team that adheres to the same philosophy as us, and he's coming off a season that ended with surgery. Plus, he'll command much more than $1.25M in a weak FA market.

Could he work out? Absolutely, but the risks taken on Ortiz are nowhere near as big as the risks that would be associated with Durazo.

no logic or merit. im talking about health risks dude

Ortiz was not a even risk type situation. Ortiz was in the beginning really signed to be the primarily DH and 1st base backup to Millar and he was 100% healthy. Sox would be siging Durazo who has never ever played a full season at 1st base, would have to wait until the All Star break or even later for Durazo to actually return from surgery and rehab. Even after which, he could not be able to regain his swing; even begin to fall upon injuries.

Ok. Wow. That exchange between Riverside and JC05 just reminded me of a funny line from Anchorman:

"Where'd you get those clothes? The TOILET STORE?"

Actually, it could be "Where'd you get those pants?" but I don't remember. Whatev. That was just a bad attempt.

Yes, I've heard of haterade by the way. It's not a real thing, Riverside. He's just being dumb. It wasn't used in the right context.

Wasn't "haterade" in a Fred Durst song...guess that says it all

back to the IMPORTANT topic...Durazo will be 31 this season so I don't know what his chances are of being the next David Ortiz. Again I wouldnt mind taking a gamble since he may come cheap but we would need another option since we dont have any right now.
